Thinking of Buying 95 Accord w/ 167k. Advice
Hi all,
You helped me decide to buy a 99 civic last year which turned out to be a great idea.
My girlfriend is looking at a 95 Accord w/ 167k on it. Radiator and starter recently changed. Current owner is 3rd owner and got it at 115k, says she's not sure if the timing belt was changed around 100k or not. I'd probably go ahead and change that if she ends up getting it.
She's asking 2k for it, FYI.
Anything i should look out for? What would you recommend replacing if she DOES get it? How long do 95 accords last if they're treated well?

To me, a car with 167k miles is way to expensive for $2,000, not to mention it is 14 years old.
You need to tell the seller that the timing belt job @ Honda is over $800 which is almost half of what she is asking. Hows the shape of the body? Classic Honda cancer?
More than likely things will need to be replaced such as rotors + pads, o2 sensors, possibly the cat, and the fuel pump/filter are now getting quite a bit of age/use on them.
I am not saying or trying to discourage you from getting the car, but if you need to do all the above work, it will easily be an another $1,500-$2,000 assuming all that needs replaced.
My suggestion is to take it to Honda, have them look it over for $80-100 and then decide from there. Show the lady the results and maybe you can talk down the price.
Now supposedly the 5th gen Accord is the most reliable and there are quite a few that are over the 200k mile mark. But alot of that is b/c of maintenance and being taken care of.
