If you are going to store it for a year why not just disconnect the batt.?

There are many "rules" for storing cars for long periods of time, number one being it should be stored indoors, or at the least under cover, [car port not car cover, unless indoors or under car port] all fluids should be changed, gas tank should be filled, get the tires off the ground but do not use jack stands unless the the stands are also holding suspension, hanging the tires and suspension is not a good idea, a simple way is to just put 2x6/2x8 planks under the tires.
There are a few more good ones I can suggest once I get a better idea of where car will be stored.94

The life of the battery will shortened if its not charged and the trickle charger is only 15bucks and a new battery is 50bucks

$50 is going to be the last thing you will need to worry about if all you are going do is connect up a trickle charger and park it for a year.

But it's your car so....
All you need to do is run a lead from the constant power free pin on under dash fuse box to the lighters center terminal, [pos.(+)], even easier, pick up a lighter housing and connect it to the constant power free pin and ground as a temporary plug in, that way you will not have to mod the stock lighter at all. 94
