hey i am building a crvtec out of my b16a3. ppl keep saying i need a b20 bottom end for the crank and rods.

can't i just use the crank and rods from my b16a3 with some aftermarket pistons on the b16 rods?

why do ppl say i need the whole b20 bottom end...

hmmm i had a skewed idea of what got swapped around.

i thought it was putting parts onto my magical b16a3 to make it nicer. Apparently it's getting a b20 and putting b16parts onto it. I like my b16 so much...

so i need the whole b20 block, with the crank, rods, pistons, oil pan, pretty much everything except the head/tranny/other obvious stuff.

will the b16a3 clutch hold up to the torque of the b20?

 

You should put a new clutch on the B20 unless you have stupidly low miles on it. An OEM replacement Exedy clutch kit is only like $101 off Amazon, shipped. There are two part numbers I've found for B18s, the KHC12 and KHC05 (and there are probably more, such as the ones for the DA). The KHC05 fits 1994-99 Integras with a 23 tooth shaft. The KHC12 fits 00-01 Integras with a 24 tooth shaft. I'm guessing you'll need the former, but double check Exedy's website.

EDIT: I've been looking and apparently there are 1st gen manual CRVs like in other countries, but not in America. Or, at least I can't find one. That would be awesome. I would love to make have a GSR swapped AWD Civic.

As for if it will hold or not, I know people have ran stock clutches for turbo setups before without issues, which will make more power than a B20vtec.

 

hell yea @ awd civic. It's been done I'm sure, just figure out how to weld it up so it'll last.

I'll probably run on the stock clutch for a few weeks til I can save up for an aftermarket one.

I'm thinking also - the b20 has much more moving rotational mass to it. The pistons/rods/crank are all bigger than the b16 parts. How is that going to mess with the tranny? I'm wondering about servos that match up gear rpms to crank rpms when you shift hard. just trying to figure out all failure points before I get started... i guess i could get lightened flywheels and that sort of thing..
