High Nox Level & Failed Inspection for 95' Accord
I ve a 95 honda accord ex with 4 cylinder vtec engine. It has 200k miles on it. I went to a mechanics to get inspection for my car. But i failed because of high Nox level. Mechanics told me engine looks ok. I got a gas treatment and filled up my gas tank with premium gas. Does it help to me?
What else can i do to get my car passed for the inspection?
Here are the datas that mechanics gave to me;
please see the attached data table;

Nox is very high. What can i do to get Nox level down under the standards.

If it should only start skipping, then you've several blocked EGR ports in the distribution manifold under the fuel rail.
Does your CEL come on when you first turn the key to the "start" position? It (and all the others) should.
Hopefully the previous owner didn't pull the CEL bulb looking to sell the car.....
Regardless of the absent CEL, I'd have it scanned for codes.
It could be the EGR control Solenoid, the EGR lift sensor, a connection or as mentioned before...

HA HA The more you know the less you make! I guess Im not the only guy who gets stuck with all the weird rattles and everyone elses comebacks! Back to the subject. If I suspect a plugged egr system, after I check the frequency valve, I will remove the EGR valve and see if it idles smooth. It shouldn't! If it does idle smooth, I put a funnel on the intake port of the egr mount and pour some seafoam (a little at a time) After a few minutes, the seafoam saturates the carbon plug, softens it, and pulls it through.

1 year later ! Emission fail again...
This year I did sth before i get my car inspected. Again i have 95 Accord Ex with 2.2 vtec and it has 200k miles on it.This year I cleaned the egr passages as instructed in the following video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d8N-SE047VY
And I cleaned EGR valve. When I apply vacuum to the valve at idle, the car dies. And I replaced PCV valve... I expected it was gonna pass.. But i am so disappointed.. FAILED AGAIN....
Here are my last Emission Test Results

What else can i do to get the nox level lower to pass?
Thanks in advance..

What I forgot to do is; to use gas treatment and premium gas before i get the car to inspection.
And When I check flow on the line #16 on EGR valve.

I do not feel any flow through line 16 at idle. Do you think the egr valve needed to be replaced?

If you follow that line 16 it wiggles over to the drivers side of the car just infront of the shock tower. This little piece it attaches to is your solenoid for the EGR valve. I believe you should be getting 7in.hg of vacuum from the solenoid. If you are not getting 7 in.hg. the EGR valve will not open all the way.
The best way to check it is to tee into the vacuum line with your gauge and go for a drive and see what you get!

Do you think i can pass emission test if i use super premium gas & Lucas gas treatment for 10 days and run the car around 30 miles before i take it to inspection?
Personally I would run 87 octane it has a lower flash point. I would also retard the timing a degree or two.
Have you used "Seafoam"? It is a cleaner that removes carbon build-up that you apply thru a vacuum hose(Yes I know what it say's on the can) I run a 1/4 of the bottle thru the vacuum line that leads to the FPR while you keep the engine running. It will try to stall on you so keep the rpm's up.
When you finish that 1/4 bottle shut the motor off and wait 10 minutes.
Then start it up again(Might take a few cranks) and run another 1/4 or a little less though it. Then take the car out for a spirited run, Don't get a ticket like the last guy I told did.
With the Seafoam treatment, Timing retarded, and lower octane you might just pass.
I have to ask, Do you have any exhaust leaks? If it leaks before the cat then fix it. Any exhaust leaks before the cat are bad news.
You can run a 1/3 of the bottle in the gas too. This will clean your injectors. So fill the tank, add Seafoam, then run the whole tank thru then fill up again. You don't want any Seafoam in the gas for the test.
I don't recommend putting Seafoam in your oil like the can says also.

well i have no exhaust leak. I used seafoam today. Poured whole 16oz bottle through the vacuum line.( I got a white carbon cloud over my house :D )
I already used Lucas gas treatments for injector cleaning, so did not put seafoam into gas tank. I have driven my car around 30 miles since after seafoaming today. Now it runs ok (the same as before, either no difference or i dont feel the difference.)
And I realized that if i plug the vacuum hose which i pour seafoam through; car does not die and keeps running at idle. Is this ok?
And How do i retard timing?
I appreciate your help

The whole bottle thru, Wow. OK then.
Run the lucas treatment out of the tank and fill up with regular.
Timing - You have to have a timing light and a 12mm socket and open end 12mm for the distributor. If you haven't messed with timing see if a friend will help you out. There are some tips in the FAQ's section I believe. If you get ahold of a timing light I can walk you through it.
Vacuum line - It might idle a bit higher only. You would need a bigger vacuum leak to stall it.
