Default compression ratio

whats the highest compression ratio you can have with 91 octane, i have a ls/vtec now with b18 block, b16 head, b18 rods, and type r pistons.

i'm running buddy club spec 3+ cams and i wanna upgrade to a bigger cam, just wondering how high of compression i can go. thanks

i would try to keep it around 11.5:1 with 91. You can go higher but it leaves less room for tuning mistakes

exactly. Your real question should have asked "what compression ratio will allow me to make the best power with reliability on 91 octane?" Around 11.5 is the magical number for street cars on pump gas.

ok I have a b18a with b16a head shaved .020 stock valve train ls rods b16a pistons. IS this a safe compression on pump gas?

I ask because I used the compression calculator on c-speed ( http://www.c-speedracing.com/howto/c...c/compcalc.php ) And it says Ill be in the 11.6:1. I also havent can not add in the .020 off the head. WOuld i be ok with 91 pump? I also have the option of 93 in my area.

in the C-speed calculator, just put a 1-layer head gasket in the parameter which will equal the .020 off the head.
