Default non-honda tranny adapter

disclaimer: this thread is not intended as an advertisement. its intention is to share a unique project that will likely never be reproduced and to share different ideas with the membership of this forum so to expand everyone's knowledge further.

i don't ask questions, i just do what the customer wants. this is a new renesis rx8 rotory going into a mk1 mr2 with a 3sgte tranny. biggest issue for him to figure out will be the axle so it doesn't interfere with the exhaust.

flywheel adapter:

clutch mounted:

adapter bolts to tranny first:

all assembled:

Very nice work. How did you make the tranny adapter on a CNC?

it is 1.5" thick 6061 aluminum cut on a waterjet. all the bolt holes and reliefs for the bolt heads were all done on a mill after the contour was cut out.

i'm not sure why... i guess he just wants something different? maybe he got a really good deal on the engine? i'm not sure really.

Thats really awesome. I was going to make the adapter plate for my H2B project, but I was afraid I wouldn't get the tranny imput shaft and crank centerline dead on perfect, and that I would have a bearing failure or something. how did you ensure that these would be lined up just right?

Interesting project and very inspiring machine work. I love the brap brap of a bridgeported rotary, but for now I'll stick with the 3sgte...

i hear ppl always talk about throwing out balance when u add a spacer to a flywheel, question if the spacer is balanced shouldn,t that alone fix it.

or is it the added weight on the rear main bearing. i dont know educate me plz i would like to know?

Rotaries use that piece from the factory to balance out the E-shaft, it's not part of the conversion.

"biggest issue for him to figure out will be the axle so it doesn't interfere with the exhaust. "

Check the Rotary in a Civic Thread... They did it with a 2piece axle..

What is the latest news wit this? I want to do this, but with a Rx-7 engine instead. The Rx-8 engine you will need to port it semi-pp and maybe a supercharger at the best to get more power Turbo Rx-8 motors break easily.
