bout to buy a motor that been sitting for awhile

Default bout to buy a motor that been sitting for awhile

k so im goin to pik up a b16a2 that has 35k on it.. it has been sitting for almost 5 years inside a storage. it still has oil in it. my question is.. from it sitting so long there anything i need to know?? does it matter if it sat so long and will the oil that in there now hurt anything??

umm yes oil in it now hurts. viscosity only really last like 3 months. change all the fluids in the whole swap. coolant ,oil, tranny fluid (oil) not the norm red tranny fluid remember !

yes definitely drain all the fluids, and replace with new.

no you should be ok, it's not necessary but for a piece of mind what i would do is remove the valve cover (replace with a new gasket and o-rings) and pour about a quart of oil over the inside of the head, that way on the initial startup it won't be bone dry for a few seconds.

ya but its only surface rust because its aluminum. It should be fine.

@OP just replace the gaskets like the other guy said. And pour some oil on the motor. Personally I would put the motor on its side and pour oil on the crank aswell before you start to put it in. And then put more in the head like the guy said. That way everything is lubricated.

Also another good thing is pull the spark plugs and put a small amount of engine oil in the cylinders and let it sit, it's going to smoke like a bitch on start up but it's better then dry or stuck rings messing up the cylinder walls
