How is your cluster working? vtec won't hit if speedometer or tach is not functioning properly.

alot of CEL's prevent VTEC from engaging. Do you have a CEL?

you just need to jump the service connector in the little green or grey rubber holder that is next to the ECU.

the rubber thing that holds it is blue? Or the connector is blue. because on EG's they are blue and on EK's they are grey. But the rubber holder is green (at least in my car).

not 100% correct

my ej1 (eg) 2 prong connector was green and wasnt even plugged into anything, was like that when i bought it.

i havent checked my ecu but i believe i have a d16z6 and p28ecu (havent checked engine code on my block, just have the vtec valve cover)

ok well i dont consider it a harness since its just a little rubber POS that does nothing. And why do you keep double posting btw?

WE HAVE OUR WINNER!!

99% sure that's why. Vtec doesn't work with a lot (but not all) CELs. I've found that it will still go with codes 1607, 1427, and whatever the VSS is, but almost anything actually related to running the engine will disable it.

It would be best if you could get the 4 digit code, as it gives a little more information than the service jumper codes. You'll need to borrow a scantool from an auto parts store for that though.

if you have a obd1 ecu then you do need to count the flashes via jumping the service connector.

If you have a obd2 ecu/car then you need the scan tool.

the VSS is the vehicle speed sensor, and you will not have vtec if its not working, unless you have a chipped obd1 ecu and the vtec speed check is disabled.

low oil psi will cause vtec to not engauge aswell, so much mis-information started in this thread.

Pull the codes and tell us what they are, untill then you dont know.
