Default 1998 Civic b18 teggy gsr swap

Hey guys. So my buddy has a 98 civic si with a d16y8... and he wants to do a b18 gsr swap.

The kid doesnt know much about cars, and he'll basically just be standing kinda helping me out with his swap. So basically its up to me to find out everyyyyything needed and involved lol. Im relatively new to swaps, the only one ive done is just a b18b replacement in a 95 teggy, cause my buddy blew his. Not really a swap just a replacement.

So my first question is, since he has a '98, would it be best for him to find a 96+ b18 so he can stay obd2? Or if we happen to find a 95 or older b18 will that be tougher converting to obd1? And if we do end up doing that, what'd we all need? a conversion harness probably hey?

Okay, so what do we all need to do this? There is the motor obv, wiring harness, ecu, tranny.
What else? will we need the shift linkage from the gsr as well? What about the axles and steering system... anything needed to do there?

As far as motor mounts, ive heard that integras and civics are the same. Im probably wrong though lol, can someone verify this? If theyre not, which mounts will we need.

Are there any writeups here on H-T or anywhere else about how to do this?

Sorry for the whole shitload of questions all in one post guys, but if someone could kinda chip through it and answer them, that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys.

if you want to stay obd2 your stil most likely need a jumper harness, there is obd2a and 2b, your 2a, integras also came in 2a and 2b

well you cant use the integra harness so sell it, use your harness from the car.
YES you need either integra axles, or em1 or sir axles.
noithing with steering is touched, inless you dont want power sterring then just loop the lines to the rack.

you will need sir, or em1 mounts, and rear mount. or buy a hasport, avid or some other kit.
THERE ARE A MILLION WRITE UPS TO DO THIS.

U need civic sir timing side motor mount BRACKET and civic sir rear mount BRACKET

The wiring you keep from the civic you just have to wire the intake manifold butterflies on the gsr

If u want to convert to obd1 go to streetlightz.com they have them for like $40 shipped in the u.s.

The shift linkage from any DC teggy

It's pretty much like the motor replacement u did except for the aforementioned parts. I'm pretty sure I'm forgetting something just google the rest there's writeups allover the place

So the passanger side d-series bracket is fine to leave alone then?

How does the motor wiring harness from a d16y8 work with a b18? are they really that much the same lol?

Yeah sry guys ima gonna try and search a bit more, see if i can find some more info. Im just tryin to get as prepared as i possibly can. But Thanks again for all your info, Much appreciated.

There's a FAQ in the Hybrid forum here for B series swaps into 96-00 civics. It even covers how to covert a non-OBD2 motor to make it OBD2 compliant. Good info. in there.
