1997 Accord LX 2.2 Oil Pressure Problem!
Have a high mileage (265k) 97 LX and I have a rather peculiar issue with the oil pressure. After the car has been running for about 15 minutes, and is allowed to sit and idle for about five minutes, after that, the temperature gauge raises rapidly and my oil pressure light begins to blink (more like twitch, as its random and obviously close to its threshold) However, when I rev up and increase the RPMs, the temperature gauge drops to the normal center level, and the light no longer blinks. I just bought it about three days ago and the oil in there now looks and smells normal. I can't imagine its something as trivial as the oil filter, or an easy fix like playing around with oil weights. I have a faulty oil pump feeling, but I sure could use some advice! Thanks!

Oil gets thinner as it heats (thick cold / thin hot). Get it too hot and it's the thickness of melted yellow snow.....
Fix your cooling issue first and then have someone throw an external oil pressure gauge on it to determine where your internal oil pressure stands.

Well, the other day I had to change out the starter which of course involved me draining some of the coolant out of the radiator so I could remove a hose from over the top of the starter. I replaced some with pure anti freeze, falsing assuming it wasnt critical to replace it with a 50/50 mix, as the amount drained wasn't to much. That of course was the start of my problem.
So, this evening, having read the reply to my iquirey, I put in some water and took it out for a test drive to warm the motor up. When I got to my destination, the oil pressure light was still twiching, however, the temperature did not rise as did before. I smelt a very funky burnt clutch sort of smell from the engine compartment (which is most odd as its an automatic transmission) and noticed that my pressure light would go off when even the slightest amount of rpms were added to bring it to 1000 or above. It was only in idle did the light flash. I decided that a full coolant flush was nessicary and headed back to the homestead. I then figured I sit in the car in the driveway and let it idle, while I reset the clock and could watch the pressure and temperature, still convinced it was infact a coolant issue. Sure enough, no problems. Im assuming that it must have mixed to an acceptable ratio and is now sufficiently cooling the motor, and in turn the oil. Ive concluded the "funky" smell was the crap the dealer cleaned the motor with to bring it to that "new car" look and have my fingers crossed. I appreciate the input and, as many of you, enjoy my new ( yet very used
) Honda If I could put another 60k on it with $800 or less in repairs and replacements, Ide be a very happy man!
