suddenly loss of oil pressure

suddenly loss of oil pressure
I have already search and got 170 results, but nobody had the same problem. Basicly I never had oil pressure problem before. The motor is a b18a, I always have 10-15psi at warm idle. But getting of the Interstate after a 40 minutes drive, I notice my oil light was sorta flickering, and the mechanica gauge shows 0-2psi. I stopped driving for 5 hours then started it back up again, the pressure seems normal, but after driving for awhile I notice it started to go down, and now i'm back to 0-2psi at idle. Anybody have any idea what's goign on?

Re: suddenly loss of oil pressure (LostCRX)
A- ur oil is getting too hot and too thin, wich will loose density and will cause oil pressure to drop
B- ur bearing clearances are in the loose side and u loose oil pressure thru there
i had the same problem, but my engine was built on the loose side of the spectrum
wich this issue was forseen and i was expecting it
i used to use valvoline 10-30 synthetic blend
now i have Valvoline 20-50 synthetic blend and its problem solved

This is probably what is going on. Try some thicker oil before your bearings say bye bye.

Re: suddenly loss of oil pressure (dustin)
most likely the oil pump or a bearing is about to fail.
I had same problem as you, all of a sudden after driving around some, my oil psi gauge would drop then rise then drop then rise only every now and then, and then it would go back to normal.
I did notice my oil was kinda low when this happened.
I pulled the motor apart cause I was going to do a complete build anyway and my oil pump gear was about to weld istelf to the housing and my #4 main bearing was about to sieze too from the looks of them. Car still drove pretty peppy most of the time though.

that's what I have on the car right now, Quickstate sae w10-30. Ill try some 20-50 and see if it helps.
btw, does anybody know where the oil pressure relief vavle is at?
