My brother put a deposit down on a '99 gsr, ran a carfax and it was clean. So we called his friend an insurance agent. Insurance companies have their own database that isn't public or cross referenced with carfax. Whatdoyouknow, the car had been totaled and rebuilt in brooklyn NY. The dealer knew nothing of this so they say.
Car dealers are thieves. , don't mean to offend anyone, but there are so many ways a dealership can rip you off.

 

Tell me about it, I bought my car after running carfax and it gave me a clean history report. I checked it 9 months later and it shows me i have a theft recovery in the state of nj on my 95 gsr, i knew nothign of this and so claims the dealer. Its bull, and there not really anyhting i can do about it.

 

I know a friend who bought an ITR at an Acura dealership... SOLD AS BRAND NEW.. found out it had been WRECKED!!!

needless to say.. he got all his money back.

 

yep, carfax only shows public records...
use carfax against title frauds...but as far as accidents, you need to bring it to a mechanic or a friend that knows that stuff...and carfax charge us too...

 

don't trust car fax. check out the car yourself. jack it up or whatever. make sure your car is perfect. oem parts unneccessary welding that looks suspicious to you. vin numbers are original and instinct.

 

Don't trust carfax. It does not list accidents to the car unless the police wrote a report on it. For example, my gf's car got into 2 accidents. Both time were had to go through insurance and when I check carfax, the car came out clean with no accident.
