TN 94 Integra gsr/typeR engine,trans,5lug,mugen 5way, 6point roll cage
At one time this car was my pride and joy! After buying a house, a dog,
and a boat I seem to always have something I would rather do than be in
the garage working on my car. I have had the car for almost 5 years now
and have sunk all kinds of money into it. When I first bought the car it
was completely stock with high miles and I spent 3000$. I have had
several Integras before including a Type R but I wrecked the R due to my
immaturity. After that I decided to build a GSR using all R parts to
make a high performance, low insurance cost car. I live in a fairly
small town in TN and when I heard of an acquaintance wrecking his R I
gave him a call to see if he wanted to sell the wreck. The donor car was
a 98 championship white Type R with 60k miles that I purchased for
4500$. I should have taken the motor transmission and suspension right
off the R and put it on my GSR but I had to go bigger. When I started
installing the suspension parts onto my GSR I realized that some of the
bushings were in bad shape. I ordered a complete polyurethane bushing
kit from Energy Suspension and replaced the troublesome bushings. I also
realized that the struts that were on the salvage Type R were in bad
shape. They had some cheap-o lowering springs on them and were
completely worn out. I started looking around for some better stuff and
came across a real find; a full set if Mugen 5 way adjustable springs
and struts. I paid 750$ for the slightly used suspension parts on eBay
but considering they were around 1500$ new that was a good price. After
installing all the parts, the car handled great and it was time to put a
roll cage in it. I called up a company that makes pre-bent chrome-molly
cages for around $600. To install the cage, I had to cut and bevel the
tubing and then weld in all together inside the car. I weld piping for a
local chemical company so I did all the TIG welding in my garage. The
cage was intended to be an 8-point unit but after realizing that I would
have to cut the dash up to install the front two bars and the halo bar I
decided to just go with a 6-point. I have the tree other pieces in the
rafters of my garage and they will go with the car in case you would
like to install them. I took the transmission to a buddy in the business
and had him go threw it looking for anything that could be a problem.
The transmission was perfect inside and $60 later I had my transmission
back with a clean bill of health. I then took the motor to a local
machine shop that does lots of circle track cars and had them bore the
motor over .030 to match my Wiseco 9.5:1 compression pistons. They also
polished the crank and installed ARP head studs and main studs. The head
got a three-angle valve job and valve guide seals; a quick pressure test
$500 and it was back in my hands ready for assembly. I then brought my
entire collection of parts home and placed them in my garage where they
have sat covered in bed sheets with a light coat of WD-40. All the bolts
from the engine were labeled in zip lock bags and all the other bolts
were put into a pan that has sat underneath the car undisturbed. When I
pulled the GSR motor and transmission, I sold them to further fund my
project and purchased two JIC Magic fully adjustable racing seats and a
pair of 4-point harnesses. I used the sliders off of the factory GSR
seats and modified them to fit the JIC seats. I did this because when I
put the seats in using the JIC brackets it seemed as though I was
sitting way to high. When I was doing all of these modifications I
wanted to ensure that I didn’t just make a fast car I wanted it to be
really nice too. So, I re-installed the carpet cutting it where
necessary for the cage and made it cover where the back seat once was. I
bought the salvage 98 Type R with intentions of turbo charging the engine
and converting it to OBD1. This is done by using all the wires, sensors
and ECU out of the GSR. I have all of the sensors off and external
components from the GSR like starter, alternator and distributor. I also
have all the sensors and accessories off of the Type R to ensure an easy
build. After going through some tough times as a new home owner I have
sold some of the turbo parts such as the AEM EMS, turbo manifold, blow
off valve, waste gate, intercooler, piping and turbocharger. I still
have a Walbarow 255 fuel pump un-opened, and RC engineering 780cc
injectors also un-opened. The only damage to the car is small dents and
dings and the rust in the quarter panel’s shown in the pictures. I have
used older interior pictures of the car because even with a flash the
pictures didn’t look very good taken in my garage. I will be glad to
take more pictures of anything you want a better look at and email them
to you or answer any questions that I can. Please email me at
