I know KAAZ is clutch, quaife is helical... but I recently bought a YS1 tranny w/ aftermarket LSD installed. The tranny is see through, and there is no diff pin going through. I know it is not stock because it has those eyes holes, it is not straight through.

I can't tell if it is KAAZ or Quaife... which is important because if it is a clutch type tranny I want to make sure to use the Kaaz fluid instead of OEM honda.


If anyone knows how to tell the difference between LSD's once they have been installed the tranny, please let me know!!!!

Currently the tranny is just sitting on the floor

 

Run Synchromesh with 1/3 tube of posi additive and be done.

what is 1/3 tube of posi additive?

 

for the Kaaz clutches IF you have a Kaaz, if it is a Quaife, it won't hurt anything.

I put 50K street/race miles on mine, when Kaaz was surprised.

It's been a while since I've used syncromesh - I should get the "friction modified" syncromesh right?

No need to goto GM Stealership.

 

Autozone worked out perfect, found the syncromesh for 6.99.

So I cracked the case this weekend, took pictures... I don't think it is Quaife or KAAZ.



I know it is a standard helical LSD, NOT clutch-type now. But I have NO clue what type of final drive that is, or what type of LSD.

Any ideas?

To tell if you have a clutch type or helical (with trans together), you can put the car in neutral and lift one front tire. Try to turn the tire. A helical will allow you to turn the tire as long as the trans is in neutral. A Kaaz or other clutch type will either not turn or give a good amount of resistance.
