I went to a metal supplier and bought a 3ft length of aircraft grade 1 3/4"aluminum tubing for 15$ and some scrap 3/16" aluminum plate. with paint and stainless bolts everything came to a total of 30$.

I did alot of research on the internet and figured out the dimensions. the length of the aluminum tubing was about 27". the angle of the cut on the tubing was 20 degrees. i used a hacksaw and a jigsaw with a metal cutting attachment.

i originally bought 2" aluminum tubing fwith a 1/8" wall for the brackets. however the material seemed a bit thicker in the pictures. i ended up using 3/16" plate for the brackets.


first i made a template for the brackets.

then i transferred it to the aluminum and cut the pattern with a jigsaw.


after the pattern was cut, i heated the piece with a torch and bent it 90 degrees. i also drilled the holes for the bolts as well.


i used stainless steel bolts to attach the brackets to the bar.


i painted the pieces with an self-etching primer and the brackets were painted flat black and the bar was painted gold.

it took about 2 hours from start to finish with just a few simple tools.


Here are the measurements for the bar i made. i used 3/8" stainless bolts, washers and nuts. i also used a belt sander to smooth all the edges and filed the edges to make them smooth. the thickness of the box aluminum was 1 3/4" with a 1/8" wall. and the brackets were made from 3/16" plate aluminum.
so here it is. I hand cut a decal from black vinyl and applied it.

That's some good DIY work, but painting and lettering it like a Beaks is a bit gay. It's like putting volk stickers on Rota Grids. If you made it, let it be known that you made it. Why perp like you have a Beaks...who cares? Paint it your own way and put your own name one it, or no name, or whatever.

make some more and then sell them, just dont put the beaks label on it

do it for like 60-65 shipped and make some profit, 50% of the cost of a beaks

thanks guys. i made this bar for ***** and giggles. i had the idea for a while and decided to try it out. I ended up getting a skunk2 lower tie bar and installed it in my car about 4 or 5 months ago. i thought about making some and selling them, but i just don't have the time to do it.

I'm not going to get into the e-argument of "faking the funk," but why didn't you improve on the design and actualyl weld the mounting tabs to the "bar?"

At least then I would see the point in doing this.

I remember having a beaks bar on my em2 and got stuck at the airport
over one of those spike speed bumps things(one-way)
and i had to floor it cause the car was dumped and i bent the brackets to the beaks bar

its pretty easy. go ahead and try it. post some pics too.
couldnt weld the tabs cuz i don't have a tig welder. improved a bit on the design by using stronger materials and stainless hardware. kinda goes along the route of " built not bought" some who work on thier own cars might know what i'm saying.
it was made for an EG, but all that would be different is the tabs for other vehicles.

Thats a tie bar....a subframe brace is what asr/f7/comptech makes and helps the subframe support a larger sway bar.

 

this looks great. going to make one for my ef once My foot heels in 6-8 weeks.

 

Paint them a different color(or not at all)...throw your own name on them and sell em all day long for $60.

yup just like mugen lips, j's racing eg-ek spoilers, benen tow hooks, skunk2 vtec solenoid covers, custom valve covers, most JDM stuff. but in the end who cares its all cool. about 75% of the **** out there does absolutely nothing. it's all about customizing and making your car look nice. thats why 99% of the people are on this forum.
