Default Legit swap for 1991 crx si D16a6 CA.

So they will no longer bar JDM motors in CA. So b16 and b18 motors will no longer be bard on CRXs... They say if the engine came with the car for example 1994 del sol dohc you can use a JDM B16A for it only if the car came with it... Now a 1991 crx si comes with a d16a6 motor what is the JDM equivalent to that motor?? I just wanna know what motors are legit in CA. if anyone knows a website that states what motors are considered legal please help. CA laws keep getting worse and worse !!!!

The SOHC ZC would be the equivalent of the d16a6 in japan.

if you wanna go jdm b16 you gotta go the long route. you gotta put in a dohc b16 from the del sol into your crx and get it bar. they then will bar it as a b16. from there toss out your usdm del sol b16 motor and put in a jdm b16. there you have it a jdm b16 in your rex.

Do they write down the motor's serial number? Look like a lot of work to get a motor that essentially has the same specs.

what do you mean by serial numbers. numbers under the b16 stamp. no they no not write down serial number. i just got my ef civic bar with a b18a1. on the bar label it just stamp with b18a1 but not the serials number underneath the stamp. a lot of work but if you want jdm it's the only route.

damn.. cali kinda sounds like the import scene is trying to get shut down.

new orleans has bigger things to worry about i guess.. out here if it fits, youre good to go. when we get inspections on a car, they rarely check ANYTHING. the only big deal around here is window tint.. and properly working lights.

my first hatch smoked like a cigar and iv never been rejected for an inspection sticker. nor did i get pulled over for "pollution". i guess n.o. has its upsides.. ?

IMO..... USDM obd1 b16 swaps (complete wit both mani's, ecu, & all necessary evap/emissions components from obd1) aren't as cheap as u guys are making them out to be, unless u know someone selling one. Cuz @ our shop the price difference is HUGE! I've driven dozens of b16 hatches @ the shop n trust me the HP gain is DEFINATELY not worth the time n money when u could jus use the money for parts to make the USDM jus as fast or faster.

Not trying to start a huge arguement, jus tryin to save u a few bucks in the longrun.

To answer your question go usdm b-series or go home.

For a single cam you can swap in a jdm d15b vtec or any single cam motor and won't get harass.

Good luck.

It's easier to to find a USDM B18C1 motor and smog components than a USDM B16A3 with that rare P30(?) ECU.

So, if you're determined to BAR a vtec B series, just go B18C1 with P72-A01 ECU.
