Default header melted a/c line! R12 escaped! please HELP!

i didn't realize my a/c line was pushed up against my header again...after a bit of driving, i heard a hissing sound, popped the hood, and where the RED SQUARE is in the pic, it completely burned through the line! i could feel/hear/smell the refrigerant, but could not see it, lol.

my question is, if the refrigerant leaked out from THAT hose (red square), does that mean my entire system is discharged?

i want to start removing my a/c components...is it safe to do so now?

TIA for any insight

[fact]

Yes, there is no more R12 in the system, just a little oil still in the compressor, you can remove it all now.

[/fact]

[opinion]

But, Why?

Replace the hose and charge 'er up.

Don't tell me you want to "save weight", as you'll never feel it.

Working A/C is a major plus on these cars.

The R-12 is gone...You need a new line, a new reciever drier, new O-rings on the joints and the system needs evacuated with a vacuum pump before being recharged. No other way to do it.

I'd keep the A/C too.

What he said^^. Plus it would be a good idea to put a heat shield on your exhaust manifold.

nah i don't care about the weight, i want the ROOM! i'm sick and tired of working AROUND all these accessories. next to go is my P/S crap!

i did take pride in the a/c actually working as well as it did for it's age...but WHEN i used it, it always felt like the motor was struggling. kinda made it all seem so fragile. if that makes any sense to anybody else

jeeeez, this is why i hate even THINKING about a/c systems! sounds like waaaaaay too much work.

i know it prolly sounds more intensive than it actually is, but i don't want to go through all that.

i've driven the sedan a total of 8,000 miles in FOUR years. so this is my major justification in yanking the a/c.

thanks for the replies guys, i appreciate the reassurance that it'll be fine.
