Default itr tranny vs...

gsr tranny with itr internal. thats possible right. i beleive the itr trannys are going for 1800 with a FD and lsd. if i get a GSR tranny could i put an itr FD (4.7) and lsd for cheaper than puchasing the ITR tranny with FD and LSD. i have some cash to spend and i am looking for a tranny for my ls/vtec.

the gearing will still be different with the gsr tranny even if you put a ITR FD.

i would recommend saving for the ITR tranny because:
a. lighter flywheel
b. tighter gears (even before a jdm or other FD installed)
c. LSD

i'm assuming you're talkin about the USDM ITR tranny which has a 4.40 final drive.
and when you have the ITR tranny, all that stuff is already installed...
which might end up saving you money/or future pain in the asses...

.....why not order a '99-'00 si tranny and put the 4.7 or 4.9 final + lsd in there?

ATS all the way baby! (And cheaper too!)

id like to know how u figure this. ATS FD $800, ATS LSD $900 on a good day, SI tranny $600 on a good day. sounds like over 2 grand to me. not even close to the 1600 u can get a JDM FD ITR tranny for from brian.

I wouldn't go with the JDM final drive tranny unless you mean a US tranny with the JDM final already installed.

The JDM tranny does have a higher final drive but its gear ratios are different from the US in 4th and 5th gear. While 1st-3rd are great the gap between 3rd and 4th is off. Its not as tight as the US tranny (JDM 96spec). It would yield better gas mileage like this but that is not really a big issue. If it was only fifth that was changed that would be fine but 4th gear is still significant enough that it is used often under hard acceleration. Just my thoughts on the matter.

the si tranny is weaker than the type r tranny.
same gearing...heavier flywheel and
some shaft or something is physically smaller on the si tranny
*more prone to snap/break*

im getting a aftermarket flywheel and clutch set. and to clarify yeah its a us itr tranny (or SI) with FD and LSD.. im thinking of just buying a used SI tranny and getting FD and LSD. but still have time to think of it.

the diff is physically smaller, same size as a LS tranny. the flywheel stays with the block. it doesnt come off with the tranny so who gives a ****?? i wounldnt say its a weaker tranny because of the smaller diff.

u mentioned the STS lsd for 900.. ive seen the ITR lsd's for around 300, i know the quality is not as good, but my motor is no monstor. just an ls/vtec built up. and also a US/JDM final drive. with those, i should be in the $1400-1500 (prolly lower) range. how about that, will that work.

FLYWHEEL has nothing to do with the tranny being sold by itself unless the seller is including a flywheel!! the flywheel should have no bearing on wheather you get an JDM ITR tranny or an si tranny or a gsr tranny.....

NEW JDM ITR TRANNY 1800 shipped.....great price
used 99-2000 si tranny 600 used
itr lsd 400 used
itr final drive 450 used
installation 250
so you save 100 bucks....not really worth it if you ask me...just get the jdm itr tranny....
unless you have access to these parts for cheap....
i have under 800 in my si jdm final itr lsd tranny!! but i had parts laying around! and did the labor myself but it is NOT BRAND NEW!!

yea the ITR and SI are basically the same if u throw an aftermarket flywheel and lsd and FD. thats the cheap way togo. hehe
