I got in my car tonight and when i started it up, it sounds like air hissing badly from the engine, near the front right side? does anyone know anything, a complete guess of mine would be the timing belt

 

its on the drivers side, i do have abs, it sounds like a loud tire deflating almost, it happens when i crank the car up

 

Could be a loose altenator belt. See if it gets worse with ur AC on. I had the same problem, I brought it into the dealership, they checked everything and couldnt find anything wrong, noticed the alt. belt was a little loose, tightened it, no more sound :D.

 

i just got in from listening to my car, and checking it out with a flash light, its dark here, but anyways it sounds to be like belt hissing almost, a little in front of the radiator. any ideas?

 

power steering pump/belt is in that general area.

 

i dont think its the power steering because it doesnt make more or less noise if i turn wheels

 

i can almost guarantee its a belt, just not sure which one. I'm having the same problem, just a softer whining type noise. Gonna have it checked out when I get my tranny worked on though.

 

i know for a fact that its one of the belts. i had the same prob when i got all my belts replaced took it back to the shop and they fixed that belt, but they didnt tell me which belt

 

turn your AC off. haha j/k. yea, it's a belt, which one? who knows. take it in.

But if you have intake and your filter is dirty it will cause a load whistling noise at idle and stop when over 1500 rpms. Get some K&N filter cleaner for like 9.95 and your set.

 

Is it a whine ? Could be a damp/wet belt too. Hitting it with some WD40 would stop it... (if that's your problem.)
