Icon6 Zanes 90 Civic Project: Venom

ME:Alright, Here is my official introduction/build thread. My name is Zane, Im a 19 year old student from Montana currently working on my degree in diesel technology. I work three jobs one full time, untill school starts and then i will be 3 part time jobs to fuel my build

CAR: I purchased the 90 civic STD from a friend of mine for $100. The body is strait except the passenger side door. He is a Chevy Blazer ***** and decided to buy a new Blazer and needed to get rid of his failed project attempt. So there i was to pick it up. I brought it home, cleared out the garage, and started dreaming. Mind you this was about 5 days ago.

PLANS:My original plan was to get rid of the D15 and drop in a D16. After much debate i decided to just go for what i really wanted to do..... a B16 swap. This along with a matte black homegrown paintjob (untill i decide to get her painted, the color of a vehicle has never really meant much to me) and slammin the beast to the grown. Im pulling every panel, cleaning, painting, and re undercoating everything. This is not my DD so its no problem sitting while i work. I will be having my buddy reupholster my stock seats rather than go with a pair of racing seats. Theme is white and black, as the name venom implies.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

I will be keeping a sort of virtual diary of the build, and will update it each time i get something done

7/27-7/28:Pulled the D15 out, pulled of the tranny so i can replace the throw out bearing and sell the biatch

Me in white

7/29 pulled drivers side fender and sanded, original paint was perfect so i just roughed it up and had my dad begin painting it.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Alright i know its been awhile since ive updated my thread, but with school and work time is short sooooo here goes.

I decided to go with a new paint scheme, since I have not seen anyone around my location with it. Purple/Black with a few little splashes of blue. I have 3/4 of the engine bay done, thanks to my father.

First a before picture

And now for what its turning into

I picked up a nearly complete interior from another EF to replace the **** stain joke of the interior that was in mine. Stupid kids and there badly painted interiors. If u didnt catch it earlier the kid i bought the car off of spray painted all of the interior black with some krylon. Fail. The only problem is the middle has a crack running through it , right in the middle pocket area. Any one know of a way to fix the crack?

New dash

I also finished gutting the hatch area

And picked up these bad boys for when shes finally road worthy

Konig Heliums 16s

I changed my powerplant as well. I came across a recently rebuilt B18C (GSR) with hydro tranny for 1200, so i went that route instead of B16. Im just waiting for the guy to pull it.
Im Still looking for Hubs since my EF is a STD model. Im also looking for a rear disc conversion. Hit me up, post away and lemme know what ya think

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1/21

Finished gutting the rest of the car, looks like a good cleaning is in order. The kid i bought it from must have decided it was a good idea to glue Styrofoam to the floor for sound deadening..... Thanks to that there is nice patches of glue everywhere. Any suggestions on getting it off??? I was also debating on whether or not to remove the sound deadening pads, what are your thoughts on that and the best way to remove it if i decide too? If anyone needs a seat with perfect foam for upholstering or something lemme know, cuz the one i pulled out is perfect just without upholstery on it.

Styrofoam nonsense

No guts

Also i still need a rear disc conversion, and a front hub upgrade. So HT brothers help me out. I have alot of interior i can part with, only problem is that its painted black.

For the B16 swap is it in my best intrest to get oin OBD0 B16 or convert to OBD1 and get the OBD1 B16. Also do i need to keep anything else from my D15 besides the wiring harness for the swap?

The blue is not the rattle can color. Its the original being painted in flat black. Question do i still do the DPFI to MPFI swap using the DX/Si harness even tho im going to be dropping a b16 in? or can i use the B16 engine harness to do it?

a rattle can paint job says that you would rather b\pay 2 grand for a swap than a paint job. i like that. haha. rattle can the **** out of this thing my nukka. and basically EVERY QUESTION you could POSSIBLY have about this swap can be answered through reading up on swap threads. good luck.

A black rattle can job that has uber major runs, and 4 different shades means "hey, i put money in to make my car quick, but i dont give a **** about what the out side looks like." IMHO rattle can is bad unless it the paint is legit touch up paint for that color.

The rattle can black is primer. My dad is a bodyman and went to school for that stuff. So when i get the engine and get the swap complete i will be having him paint it gloss black with his actual paint gun and stuff. The paint is chipping off in places and it just bothers me so im pulling all the panels and priming them and when i say im priming them i mean my dad lol. And as for the wiring, i think i might just go rywire route here seeing as i dont have an si harness, ill just send the b16s in with my d15s.

Most people would remove the molding from the fender before painting.

keep your harness do the mpfi swap keep the old b16 wiring harnes for hwatever you want..or sell it for more parts.. use all your existing harness. i would say convert to obd1 for tuning purposes later on down the road.. buy or make your own an obd0 to obd1 subharness for ecu and for the dizzy...when i did the mpfi conversion i picked up an si harness for what i was told to be dirt cheap wich was fifty bucks and this came with engine harness and under dash harness i think you still have to wire up vtec and knock sensors...some one correct me if im wrong..and ya theres a ton of build threads with this swap being done

i vote you do the wiring ur self, for the sake of learning and saving a good chunk of change. its really not that hard, and you will be able to know what ur are talking about when ur talking about the swap. and as far is rattle can black. im in the middle of my rattle can paint job, removed all the trim and painting it wil krylon trim paint. and i am using krylon "rust tough" flat black. its coming out very good, so **** the haters. its gonna be alot better than the 5 shades of black that was on all the mismatched body panels before the rattle can job.

WTF is with all of your hair cuts?

Do the wiring yourself, depending how you do it, it will be as little as 6 wires OR as much as 8 wires for the B16 (a standard conversion is only 2 to 4 wires again depending on how you do it)... Much better than spending $XXX.xx for a dumb swap harness. There are plenty of DPFI to MPFI write ups in the FAQ. Just do the MPFI conversion first then wire up everything for VTEC on the B16...

Either way use the DPFI harness and ditch the B16 harness it is MUCH, MUCH, MMMUUUCCCHHH easier to use the DPFI harness... you will have less problems as well.

Sorry though, I can't watch this thread because I don't want to keep changing my underwear every time I look at the pictures.

O and im in the process of selling anything i possibly can to make money to get the engine. With school starting the ninth my working income will go down. I have picked up 3 jobs on top of going to school tho so hopefully that will help out. If any one is selling a MPFI harness please let me know.

Again, you don't need a Si harness. Use your DPFI harness. All you need is the injector clips and a resistor box. You will actually have 3 left over plugs from your DPFI harness. You also have to extend your IACV and TPS wires it is not hard at all. Just save the clips from the B16 for VTEC Solenoid, VTEC Pressure Switch, and the Knock Sensor. That is all you will need besides some spare ECU pins and wire.

BRB I have to go change my pants...

Sorry dont mean to sounds daft but the wiring just a little confusing to me. I have a resistor box from my 91 prelude parts car and i can just get the injector clips when i get the B16 harness. Is there anywhere were there is the write up without mergin the two harness's. The only ones i have seen involve cutting up an Si harness. If you feel better to pm me about it feel free.

Ok, so i have managed to save up about 1800 dollars, and am hoping to order my engine in the coming month. This is what i think will be the best bang for my buck B16a If anyone thinks differently please let me know why. Big thanks to beansandrice for a good deal on mounts.

My birthday is next month and my GF needs some ideas of what to get me, and i would love to hear your ideas as well. Something in the 100 dollar and below range for my EF.

Also if anyone needs parts off the B15 i pulled out im more than willing to sell some. It has a new alternator and the engine was rebuilt not too long ago.

One last thing do any of you know what the shipping is like from Hmotorsonline?? and if its business only??
