Alright 91 integra all stock. I noticed a weird sound yesturday when my girl pulled out the drive way, after checking every thing out i realised the crank pulley is pushed up right against the timing belt cover and the alt. belt is rubbing a hole in the timing belt cover.
Now i know the crank pulley should not be this close, i took a flat head and the crank pulley just kinda rocks in an out, i jacked up the car to see if the crank pulley was at all loose and its not.
I also noticed when I turn the crank and engine around with a ratchet the pulley falls back to it normal position, then when i start the car it runs right back into the timing belt cover.
I really need to know how and what it would take to fix this, or even if it is fixable she starts school in 3 days.

There is a small thrust washer that goes on before crank pulley, it let's a the crank pulley sit a couple millimeters out to prevent this.
No. Crank walk is off-clearences between main/crank bearings which allows play and to let the crank "walk". It's very popular with the DSM's.

To confirm, your saying the pulley moves in and out, but doesnt tilt right? Its either two things. The washer between the crank pulley and the timing belt crank gear is not there, or there might be some crank walk. I think i've only seen one case of any b18 having crank walk, and it was very subtle, so take that pulley off and look for that washer.

Either a bolt got loose up in the bay and fell down bending the pulley or the woodruff key is out somehow or the splines in the crank stripped either way take of the pulley and inspect it and report back theres not much we can do post a pic if u can.

Ima gunna try an get some pics up in the AM. Thanks for the help so far
Only recent work done was replace the belts.
94 carbonteg... yea pulley slides slightly in and out, but no i wouldnt say tilts-Better description ( its snuged right up against the timing belt cover causing the inside ridge of the pulley and the alt. belt to rub a hole in the timing belt cover.
If i take a ratchet and turn the crank from the bolt about two compression strokes later the pulley will be properly gaped from the cover and its it normal position, then when i start the car, shut it off and re inspect, the pulley is snuged right back up to the timing belt cover)
once again thanx for the input so far, an i will try an put pics up asap

thats the lil key in your crankshaft that locks the crank pulley and the crank... your gonna need a new motor soon jus put it that way unless u wanna put another crankshaft.
exacto i seen this happen to a few motors so start looking for a new motor
ok i encountered two different situations but same out come...1) the tiny key is messed up bad that the crank pully has a lil play ...2) the stock crank pulley is actually two pieces but looks like one piece, the harmonic balancer on the crank pulley is actually some type of rubber that absorbs stress and doesnt damage the crank.... it might be torn to the point were theres a heck of alot of play and might seperate and damage the oil pan ot timing belt or etc..
No. If it came to the fact that the key is damaged to the point where it's not doing it's job, or even missing, the crank pulley it going to stay there and not drive the belts (power steering, A/C, alternator). The crank pulley is no way connected to the timing belt.
If that key shears, it'll tear up the snout of the crankshaft. The pulley isn't going to just glide smoothly over the snout if the key was damaged; the remnants of the key and the looser clearance will wobble on the snout and tear it up.
OP:
When you say that work was recently done on the belts, did that include the timing belt too?
If yes, I'm betting that since the the thrust washer was left off. If that's the case, then I would inspect the timing belt as well because it may have partially walked off the sprockets.

if the crank pulley moves at all that means the bolt isnt all the way tight and if the washer isnt there get one from a junk yard and if it still does it make sure that the crank bolt is all the way tight if it feels tight but isnt holding the pulley on i would check the threads that the bolt goes into bcuz if they're messed up u need a new crankshaft or b very experienced with a rethreader
i have the same issue, and i took off my crank pulley yesterday and found that the "key" wasnt there anymore and the crank shaft pulley's "key" holder was torn and stripped. The crank shaft snout had minimal wear on it, but still noticeable. It came out very similar to this guy's issue (https://honda-tech.com/forums/honda-civic-del-sol-1992-2000-1/1996-honda-civic-crankshaft-pully-bolt-let-go-2624160/). Everyone says to replace the crank shaft or engine, but i have an extra crank pulley laying around and the car has 200k + miles on it... gonna see if i can get a little extra out of it
