IMO it is not needed. I love the 4.7 trans as is. I would consider it more for a 4.9 FD.

If you change over to 4.7 final drive you will be in VTEC @ that speed. You'll use more gas, the plus side to having the 4.7 is that you'll have quicker acceleration, but your top speed will drop to around 137mph vs. 150mhp w/the 4.4 final drive.

You must have a busted 4.7 and or really low vtec engagement setting. Should be able to hit at least 95 mph with 15" wheels/tires (say 205/50-15) before vtec engages in 5th gear.

A buddy of mine has his vtec engagement low, I belive @ 5500 rpm. I've though about getting the 4.7 final drive, @ this point I don't need it.

4.93 or hang it up... I DD'd it for 2 years. IMHO the taller 5th just isn't needed for any of the 3 FD's mentioned.

Good choice, not worth cracking open the transmission.

On another related point, doesnt VTEC only engage under a certain percentage of throttle? IE it doesnt open while cruising, but more towards wide open throttle.
