Icon2 "help" egine knock,code p1259(vtech malfunction)

what up h-t, i was a idiot a few days ago forgot to add oil in my d16y8,it went low. anyway i was passing someone the other day and it kicked out of vtech and started knocking,i put 3 qts back in it but damage was already done,the code was p1259(vtech malfunction). my ? is why the knock if the vetech is malfunctioning,i was thinking rod bearing slip if so can i fix it with out taking the motoer out. i need to drive the car till i have all the parts for my kswap/ thanks for any help guys

you can get new bearings in with the motor in. but thats like patching a hole in a tire. from bearings spinning causes damage. VTEC works off of oil pressure. if you dont have oil pressure it will not work or slide back out of vtec. dont put a k20 in if you dont use oil in your engines

this was the first time in 10 yrs that i have been driving,that ive done something this stupid. i have been gathering parts when ever i can for the kswap,i cant aford to buy everything at once.so thats why i would be basically patching it for the time being. thanks for the response though.
