Default How do I make a Civic Del Sol handle?

I am fixing up a Civic Del Sol with a F22b1 engine swap. How would I help the handling? Has anybody made a roll cage for the Del Sol? I already plan on getting coilovers, anti-sway and tie bars.

I want to do even more. A roll cage is what I really want to do. But I still want to keep the rear window.

hmmm...a roll cage is un-necessary weight for a track oriented car. try the basics like bars, nice stiff springs (or coils), wider wheels & tires, sways etc.

del sol's don't have C pillars. i think you mean A to B right? above the door windows? just want to clarify. that would stiffen the frame for better handling. you could also add strut bars (is that what you meant by tie-bars? not sure if you meant upper or lower - just add both)

motor is too heavy for autocross type driving >
add benen's strong bar for the rear and cross
-member bar > weld all the seams for extreme
seriousness like the skunk2 teg

First thing you must get are tires! I used Yok A032R's
Second thing is to stiffen up the body (removable top means less body regidity). Chose a good company to buy front and rear strut bars, rear lower tie, and front vtec performance bar.
As for swaybars and coilovers, always go for balance. One of the things that makes cars like type r's such good handlers is that they are well balanced. To do this you should weigh your sol and if you can find out where the weight is at each corner. With this information you can chose proper spring rates and anti swaybar thickness. A simple example would be if your car was weighting in with 60% of the weight in the front and 40 in the rear and your running a 25mm front sway bar then you want a 17mm rear sway bar for optimal balance. You can adjust from there. Again this is a simple example, but should help.
I used this formula on my delsol and it handled like a gokart on rails.

good luck
