Is this all stock or a swap?
Had you recently done any work to it?
Did this problem just start out of the blue or was it getting progressively worse?

Diagnosing problems on the net has always been risky. Too many variables that are missed because your not there. So just trying to give you a guess (Mechanic for over 20 years). Sounds as if your having a clutch problem that's why it wont go into gear running, but seriously, it could be other things too.
Check your clutch cable for adjustment 1st and report back.

What axles did you use?
Thinking you used the axles for the motor (rather than for an 88~91) and they are binding into the steering knuckle when you put it on the ground and the suspension gets the axles in place.

i was thinking it was binding 2 im not sure what axels cause they came with the swap i bought from a friend thats now in jail...and no way to talk to him but i figured since they fit in they would work

I had binding problems twice with Z6 swaps using newer axles from the 92~95 car. They fit fine, but locked up from binding.
Some people don't have any problems with the newer axles so I really have no idea why they were binding on me, but the cars would not roll with those axles in.
I didn't try to spin the wheels in the air though... just assumed and tried the old axles and it worked fine.
IF you still have your old stock axles they should pop right in.

WtF was I thnking.
Nevermind my posts.
You can't even get it IN gear - not the axles.
I was thinking it was going in gear and not rolling.
Feeling like a crack head right now.

ok what clutch and fly wheel did you used 88 was a lone yr so make sure you have the right pp and disc. i have the same issue with my b16 swap . make sure your clutch cable is tight enough so that its engaging and disengaging
i had the same exact problem youre having. this was about a year ago. i swapped a 88 si tranny into my 91 dx hatch. i dont remember the combo of pressure plate, clutch, flywheel and axles i used. i just know it took a while to get everything straight with it. everything is supposed to work if you have all the right parts and everything goes together fine.
my car was having the same problem you explained. i could get into gear with the car in the air and when the car was off.. but not while it was on. i couldnt find a damn thing for about a month on how to fix this problem. so i got my brother in law to push me with his atv down the road while i was in neutral. when i reached about 10 or 15 mph i slipped the car into first and popped the clutch, then feathered the gas. hahaha, everything worked out fine and my tranny shifts like a dream. now i dont reccomend doing this unless youre really fed up with the problem and absolutely cant find a reasonable solution.. and i had a spare dx tranny so i didnt mind if i f***** something up.
good luck man.. if you do find out exactly what the problem is post it here so we can see what is up with the transmission. and im not responsible for damages or injuries
