My 84 Prelude hesitates between 3500 and 5000 rpm. Any ideas?
When it is cold and I step on it, it seems fine. That only happens once. After that it hesitates until about 4500, sometimes higher, sometimes lower and then takes off. Is it possibly my vacuum advance? or maybe my fuel mixture is too rich? It only happened recently before any mods were done.
when was the last time it had a tune up? i had an 85 dual carb and i had to clean out the carbs (of course i had to take them apart, but hey) because there was dirt or something in one of them. i had a rough idle and couldn't seem to get anything out of the throttle when i tried to accelarate. after that i couldn't seem to get over 5000 rpms so i put in some bosch platinum +4's and i hit 6500 rpms like it was new. try a tune up and see what happens. (plugs, wires, cap, rotor, fuel filters)
the problem is your vacumme advance is getting stuck take your distributor apart and spray it with WD-40 and clean the termnals good get a new cap and rotor and either ngk wires or stock ones as any others will lead to problems in the future. email me at rtypeinertia@hotmail.com for a list of performance parts for that car.
P.S. Do not use Bosch platnum +4 on this motor as it can destroy it.

how do you figure the +4's can destroy that motor? just out of curiosity. the 85 that i had put them in over 6 months ago still runs just as good as it did when i first put them in it. and the owners of the car have put a lot of miles on that car in the last 6 months.
they ruin the motor by creating to much spark scatter and they fowl out the cap way to easy. Plus it's all hype you spend to much for a low quality plug NGK-R's are the best for this car.
