OK, long story short, I tore down the top of my engine down to my cam shaft. When I put it all back together and started it last night its making like a knocking noise now. Anyone know what this could be? Did I just forget to tighten something or is somethign sitting wrong in there? Has anyone else ever had this problem? It wasnt doing this before I took it apart.

 

knocking?..you need to find out if its your rods or what? why did you take the top off in the first place?
did you drop something in the engine?
pull off the oil pan and check the main and rod bearings and thrust washers

 

Well when I got the car there was a valve cover bolt broken off and this past weekend i decided to finally fix it (Ive had the car for a month). The gasket around the bolt had been holding and the valve cover gasket hadent been leaking but i figured i might as well go ahead and fix it. well while trying to drill out the bolt i did get a little chunk of metal the fell into the block. So this piece should be sitting in my oil pan?

 

dude. seriously dont cry when i tell you this but....even a tad bit of metal shavings can destroy your motor. if you dropped any pieces of anything besides oil down to the bottom...take off the oil pan after draining it and inspect the damage

 

So that knocking noise is definately that chunk that fell in there? I read on another forum that the metal would fall down inot the oil pan and sit there. Not sure how true that was now. Could the knocking be something else. I'm not too upset about it because next month im putting a b16a in it but if it is the metal messing stuff up then yeah that does suck.

 

well anything that falls down to the bottom usualy gets kicked up and throw into the rods and everywhere down there. but good thing you have anohter motor. b
but id still pull off the oil pan and clean it out and check real good all the parts attached to the crank

 

were your rocker arms installed correctly? mine knocks because they exploded when i took them out & didnt install correctly

 

thats one thing im wondering about. im thinking it could be the rocker arms. it seems like the noise is coming from up in the valve cover and not down in the block. im gonna take another look at the rockers and see what i jacked up.

 

yaa mine has same thing, i have extra rocker arms ive yet to put on. mine you can hear at idle only outside of car, and it goes away after driving occasionally
