Default Shaved cylinder head advice

My car's head was milled 25 thousandths and i purchased and adjustable cam gear so my tuner could adjust the timing as needed so i could run it safely, my car is tuned very mildly by a friend, but my other friend has a 2002 civic with what i beleive is a D series engine... i dont know much about civics so im just trying to be helpful, but he wants to have his head milled as well, my question is though can he mill his head and use an adjustable cam gear and have it run fine? Or will he have to have it tuned? I never tried to run my car after the head without having my friend look it over and adjust the gear accordingly.

if your buddy has a 2002 civic then it has a d17 unless it is an si. d17 is a single cam and you can not gain any power with an adjustable cam gear cause you can not adjust the overlap between the exhaust and the intake. also milling the head really won't get you anything on a d17 honestly it is a waste of money if he is trying to get N/A power out of a d17 he is better off just getting a crower cam. the stage one is litterally a drop in affair with no tuning necessary. the stage 2 with k-pro, tuning, and a good header can get you around or close to 145 hp. mind you these cars dyno at 90-95 stock.
