Default 1992 Honda Accord Start Problems (Fuel Related)

Hello Everyone.

Situation.

I just bought a 1992 Honda accord for my fiance. When we bought it everything check out great no issues. After about a week of owning the car it began acting up. When i would shut if off it would not want to turn back on ( it would turn over strong but no fire up). I would have to wait a couple of Mins and try again then it would turn right back on. Then i left on a trip and the car sat for 2 days. When i got back it would not start. It would turn over very strong but not luck. I left it alone and it started right up a couple hours later. Now its a real hit and miss getting her going. Sometimes she will start right up in the morning and run fine then you shut her off and try an hour later and no luck. Then come back a little later and she starts. Its not weather related cause it will do this in Dry Wet Hot or Cool weather.

Here are my observations.
1. When she starts up she runs fine no wild idle. But when i shut her off and come back. She turns over for a sec and dies. (seems she runs off the fuel left in the lines and the pump is not giving her anymore.)
2. After i get her to run i take the gas cap off and it sucks a lot of air in (as if purge valve is not working)

P.S I know there has been alot of issues with the Main Relay and EFI relay. I have no checked those yet.

Thanks in Advance
Tim.

Hi Tim,
I'm having the same problem...I posted my request a few days ago. I was told by several people that:

1: Loose ground (I have)
2: Main Relay (not sure yet)
3: faulty Injector that drains into the cylinder after you shut the car off( The fuel rail has to re-pressurize on the 2nd start) (Very possible)

My problem isn't solved yet...but with the help of Honda Tech...it will...before I joined I bought my 92 EX(it was Dead when I bought it)...followed the posts on different issues...She has a few issues but she's good reliable transportation...THANKS GUYS!!!

I suspect Main Relay failure. Obviously, without the vehicle to test it is a guess. If you hear no click from behind the dash when the MIL turns off ( key on engine off ) and the car doesnt start, I'd replace the relay.

Hey everyone Thanks for the post.

"UPDATE"
Im still looking into the issue and im trying to diagnose it. But last night i was able to play around and it finally started. So I took it out and I took it easy for a while and then I really got on it hard. (Fast Accl and Brake) I was trying to see if there was any hesitation on accl but there was not or see if it would stall when it needed that extra fuel. It responded perfectly I drove it hard for a bout 30 mins then let it sit and run for about 20 mins. I also shut it off and turned it back on a few times to simulate a hot start and it passed that just fine. Today when I went back out there it has started every time today which is the first in like over two weeks I have been able to get it to start every time I go out there.

Just wanted to keep everyone updated

O and phootbag I do hear a click after the MIL light goes out, is there any other way to test that relay without taking it out?

Thanks
Tim

Hey Everyone.

Today I went out to start the car and I waited to hear the click like i usally do and today its not clicking again so im guessing that the relay is going out and its just intermittent. So anyone have any good places to buy the relay.
