Need Help!!!!! Head gasket question
Ok so im replacing a head gasket and when i was taking everything apart i forgot to put the motor at tdc #1 and didnt pay attention, so about putting it together how do i put the cams in and know they are right? Can i just line up the crack to tdc with the marks on the pulley any help would be great thanks!!!!
You can find tdc with the head on just remove the spark plugs get a real long extention bar stick it down cyl #1 and rotate the crank untill the bar reaches its highest point that way you know cyl # 1 is set at tdc then install the cams properlly

^^ what he said. Put the crank pulley on, there's a TDC mark on it. Once it's on and aligned, install your cams and put your cam gears on with the big arrows facing up (piston #1 being @ TDC).
when doing timing, you will have to mess with the tdc mark and the cam gears so that they are still aligned together before tigthenin the tensioner. set the tdc mark about half inch off and the cam gears about a tooth off so that when you do turn the crank to make the belt tight they would still be aligned. if you set everything at tdc, then when you do turn the crank to make the belt tight everything will be off..it takes time and practice
haha ya they do suck so you basically line it up and set the cams on and tightening the cam caps will force the correct valves down if everything is right?

if you've done it multiple times and know what the heck you are doing, headgaskets are not hard at all it is only time consuming, and it also saves you $1000 bucks
never use the "extension" method. you can be a few teeth off. just take the crank pulley off and line up the marks on the oil pump and belt sprocket, then the cams can be aligned by placing the "UP" arrows up and getting them timed by leveling up the slight notch on the outside of the gear with the head/valve cover surface and the 2 gears facing each other.
