Default Stock D17A2 Motor safe crank hp? confused.

OK, I'm looking at a possible GT2560 on a stock D17A2 motor in an 03 Civic EX Auto doing DD duty and MC HSAX (Road Racing).

It looks like to get ~175-200hp at the crank, I'd be running 8-10psi boost. Correct?

Will the the stock motor (heads, pistons, fuel pump, etc...) take 200hp RELIABLY? What causes trouble first (headgasket, pistons, studs, etc...)?

I drive <3200rpm on the street, 4000-6900rpm redline in 3rd on the track, and need to know how much $ I can expect to shell out if I boost.

I know that there will be ongoing minor maintenance, but can't really afford to have the car off the road M-F or rebuild the engine every 2 years.

And yes, I have utilized the search function beforehand. I am still confused.

well.. the new d series are an oddball of sorts...

I suspect if they are like the other d series motors, the rods are probably the weak point...

as far as how much boost you have to run, that depends entirely on your turbo... a larger turbo will have a higher output at the same level of boost than a small turbo...

if you don't want to do a full build up, then put some arp headstuds in, get the thing tuned, and then clench your teeth...

if you want to build a motor for boost, then do a full build, like the one found here:https://honda-tech.com/forums/honda-civic-2001-2005-78/faq-thread-forum-members-honda-tech-556968/

good luck!

You're going to "road race" a turbo'd stock engine automatic D17?

Yes.

Midwestern Council HSAX

I'll probably upgrade the TC eventually, but I'm pretty much locked-up in 3rd most of the time, so may not be a huge problem. I'm adding a huge tranny cooler at turbo swap time.
