Default hoping someone has some suggestions

k so last wednesday a friend of mine and i built a LS (p75 i believe) head we put in full brian crower valvetrain and a set of brian crower stage 2 na cams, all new gaskets, a benen fuel rail, we reused the stock injectors with new o-rings, oh and a skunk 2 intake manifold w/ hondata gasket and a itr throttle cable bracket, umm old oem throttle body

anyway heres the problem at first the car starts up fine at a cold start, then it gets warmed up and wants to die out, we figured timing was the problem since we didn't utilize any type of adjustable cam gears, so anyway we got it to hold idle somewhat BUT the car is running super rich, we purchased a blox fuel pressure regulator and a fuel pressure guage, we turned the fpr all the way down and it still reads 70+ psi, as far as fuel and the ecu were still using the stock units, we ordered a phearable ecu and injectors were hoping theyll come in on monday but as of now does anybody have any idea of what could have caused the spike in pressure?

any help will be appreciated, if anyone wants more info on the motor specs please let me know ill be as prompt as possible
thanks

well, the only thing that would make sense to me is a clogged return line or a malfunctioning fpr. You hook up all the vacuum lines correctly, make sure you got off all the old gasket etc? Having new cams that aren't dialed in will def make it run like *** but shouldnt affect the fuel pressure.

thats what we were thinking too i dont see why fuel pressure is all high if everything is stock, and yeah we had the head off for a while so we cleaned all the meeting surfaces really good we torqued everything down to spec, all vacuums are routed correctly ill check that clogged return line right now, also we tried two different oem fpr's, and the blox one but from what the guage is reading its not even reacting to the fpr, it stays around 70+psi and i know its working correctly because its still shooting raw fuel through the tail pipe and the garage gets full of black smoke every time we turn it on

Lol yeah I know quite a bit about cars and I can't think of anything that would cause that to happen, neither can my neighbor who is a service writer at Mazda or my other friend who is a tech at Honda lol I'm hoping someone has run into this problem before and can help

ok so after completely giving up and letting the car sit for a few days, i decided to take another look at everything, i ran the car and disconnected the fuel return line and to my surprise.. it was dry.. with the car still running i loosened the bolts to the fuel pressure regulator.. nothing... WTF.. completely took off the fpr and got a sarcastic "WELL THERES YOUR PROBLEM" from a buddy of mine.. so here is the problem... LOL
stupid benen design.. idk if all are made this way or this one was just messed up but we drilled it out already... car runs fine

dont worry, nsxtasy is just here to quote forum rules, pay no mind, however i am curious as to what kinda gains your getting with just the crower valvetrain and the skunk2 manifold with tuning, let me know if you get any dyno results

we never even thought that would be the problem since everything was new, i figured benen would have made theyre rail right so we never even questioned it.

Yeah that would make sense. I guess that just goes to show you have to inspect everything before you put it on. I've personaly never seen a fuel rail come like that but other aftermarket parts with issues are pretty common. Must of just been the one to slip by.

Meh. It's probably not a slip up. They must expect you to use an external fpr like an aeromotive with it. Leaving the port closed like that ensures that you'll never have leakage past a fitting you're using to stop up the hole.

Good point. Thanks. I was up in the air between an AEM and the Benen. Lol for a second I was reconsidering the Benen at all. But that is a pretty valid point. Now I still have to decide damnit.

May I suggest degreeing your cams? You'd be surprised the power gains that are avialable in correctly degreed performance cams!
