Are they leaking? If not, leave them alone. The chance if scratching the aluminium is not worth it.

i agree the chance of scoring the sealing surface is high, but i wouldn't wait for it to leak... if it's time for the timing belt to be done, it's time for the seals to be replaced leaks or not. when they do start leaking, who's going to do 5+ hours of work just to replace some $3 seals...? i know i wouldn't.

i use a short worn out flathead screwdriver, but i wouldn't recommend it

most tool stores and well stocked auto parts stores carry seal removers, but i've never tried them myself... if you can find a sturdy plastic trim removal tool or something similar to carefully pry the seal out with, that would be ideal, IMO.

yeah, like i said prying carefully is the trick.

the cam gears will need to come off, so don't forget to break the bolts loose before removing the T-belt. V6's have uneven tension on the cams from the rest of the valvetrain so they're easy to spin on accident and bend a valve..

if you don't want to spend the money on a seal install kit (i know i don't!) carefully selected and sized PVC can be used in many cases. test fit it all before starting the job
