Which Igniton coil to buy?....
I just found out my coil for my 1.5 D series motor went out, good thing I have two cars with the same motor..thats how I swappped and found it was the coil. My question is I see some off brand ones for pretty cheap, and I dont want to fork out the $98 for an OEM honda one, is it really that big of a deal? I will fork out the money if it will make the world of difference, but if not I would like to save some money!

I looked at a couple of your links. Turns out it's the same coil as in my '92 VX. Mine went bad and I bought the cheapest one on ebay for about $20. Looked identical to the one in the car. And it's worked fine now for a couple months.
So you bought the cheap one for $20 bucks and you have had NO issues at all with that coil? About how many miles have you been using the new coil?
I've put about 2000 miles on it so far. I think the deal I got was $20 which included shipping. Here's the odd thing. I bought the car from a neighbor. She had the car serviced at the dealer all it's life. When I took the bad coil out and compared it to the aftermarket coil - they were identical. The old coil not only was electrically bad (checked w/meter) but the plastic connector on the primary was discolored and cracked apparently from age.
So I can only assume that the dealer must have put an aftermarket coil in the car some years back.
Normally I would only use Honda parts in my Hondas but this coil is working fine.

I hear you on that. the del sol I just bought was a 1 owner for 14 years, the girl I bought it from serviced it at her local dealer/different shops and provided numerous receipts to go along with it, probably 4 inches thick. Nothing out of the ordinary or anything, tires and oil for the most part.
The car did run a lil rough at idle sometimes, so I changed the plugs with NGK's and wires with NGK's and also the rotor, well after I changed the rotor I was driving and the car just DIED on me. I finally figured it was the coil from a swap of a working one.
If I can find a OEM one for under $40 id pick it up, but if not Ill go for the cheaper one and see how that works.

true, but I think im going to keep a spare one in my car for a while, because im going to be changing the coil on my other car too. If this one fails Ill sell the other one im going to use in the future and get the OEM for both cars./
