Anyone w/an MFactory LSD stripping splines on axles?
Anyone here w/an MFactory LSD stripping splines on axles? If so please chime in!
Not blaming anyone here, just trying to figure out the axle spline stripping issue we've been having with new DSS 5.9's and an MFactory LSD. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Info is here on pg.9

It just looks like the stripped splines maybe only engaging part of the spline i.e.- mis-machined or something. It's hard to believe the DSS spline is so soft that it could strip just from doing 1 burnout.
Got any pics? It is very common for the passenger side to have problems when you are laying alot of power down. Several of us have had problems with it. The drivers side inboard splines are just too small. That's why you see alot of people using the pro levels or even mark williams now

Have you contacted the manufacturer about this yet, to see if they have any insight?
Sorry, just heard about this. We have lots of customers running the 5.9's on them with no problems whatsoever. Infact, this is the first time I've even heard of someone having a problem like this.
Have you put the tranny back together, or is the diff still out? If you hit me up on email and we'll see what the problem is

We had the same problem with a DSS 5.9 and the Mfactory diff.. We just assumed the axle popped out because it wasn't properly installed.. Passenger side axle..
Thanks for all the input guys.
Again, I'm not blaming the MFactory LSD, just trying to gather info to help narrow down the issue.
We have to pull the tranny again so it'll be out.
These were both clipped in place, they didn't pop out. Both newer 5.9's.
The 1st one we ordered ~6 months ago, the 2nd one was just ordered a week ago.
Yes, immediately. Brand new 5.9, did a burnout in the waterbox and it was stripped. We couldn't even stage the car.

Sorry, that question was for Locash :p
But yeah, it certainly does seem strange for this to be happening, and especially so if it is only with these 5.9's.
Have you checked the measurements of the axle splines against a non 5.9?

actually, we couldnt get another axle seated in it. We changed out the inner of the dss 5.9 axle and it wouldnt go in all the way and would bind up. we pulled the trans, tore it down, switched out the mfactory lsd to a quaife that i had laying around and threw it back together so we could start our journey to fontana for IDRC.
The weird part is after we got the replacement parts and we reassembled the mfactory lsd, we couldnt get the axle to slide in smoothly and lock, until Jeff (White.:R32) did something to it. I think he had to sand a little section that the axle scared up.

i had this happen with my 5.9 in a quaife, i also thought it was do to soft metal, but turns out the quaife had broke that pass.
that makes me wonder, when i installed my passenger axle it didnt make that pop noise that it makes when it goes in all the way, but it looks as if it is in all the way
(mfactory lsd and 5.9's here too)

this just happend to me and it was the lsd that broke... the lsd looks fine when you look in it but upon taking it apart for further inspection the right side axle gear fell apart into several pieces... btw im looking for a right side dss stage 5.9 inner spline assembly... please lmk

I read a Thread on here about a car running dss axles and mfactory diff that had the exact same problem. They kept changing axles and kept having the same problem. They found out that the diff had a very thin (hairline) crack in it where the axles inserted. When they did the burn out and launched the car the part of the diff where the axles went in would separate because of the crack and strip the splines on the axle. If I could remember the thread and who started it Id tell, but its been a while.

I have a qauife lsd with autozone axles, this just happened to me a few weeks ago. the passenger side axle splines were stripped. but it looked like my axle popped out becasue only about an 1" of the splines was stripped and not the entire length of the splines. and my lsd looked fine all the splines were good. it happened as I was 2-step at 7k. 502whp
