my tach goes wild by the needle jumps up and down when i step on gas. its not accurate rpm reading. its like either the needle is loose. or there is problem in the distributor. i hooked up my shift light to the distributor thinking my tach is messed up ..but when i rev to check the light..the needle lights up according to the needle. if i just tap on the gas a little bit..the needle can jump all the way to 5k or even 6k. i dont kno if i am makin sense....=\ i just hope somebody knows what i am talkin about
open up the tach and make sure all the wires are tight. loose wires can cause the tach to go crazy.
if that doesn't work, try replacing your ignitor. that seems to be the problem on alot of d series distributors.

i dont kno if you guys are thinking its a autometer tach..but im talkin about the tach on my cluster..and i kno for sure the cable to the blue wire is on tight because its connected on the right way.. i have a few people telling me its the distributor..but im not totally sure. its been happening ever since but its finally getting annoying. its been happening before i install my shift light.

Check and make sure all the ignitor wires are tight before you swap them out. Chances are, some if not all of the ignitor connections are loose..
Does the car hesitate or stumble at all??? If it does, the ignitor connections are definately loose...
A bad ignitor will cause a rough run, stalling, no start and tahc problems. If you have just ne of these problems, the connections are loose, or might be in the tach itself. Haven't seen a tach go bad myself however..

actually the car doesnt hesitate or stumble..in fact it runs well .. i dont have rough run..stalling...or no start...well dis is when it start to happen after i install some indiglow... would this help? would the indiglo might have hit the needle and made it loose..? but if that is the problem..when i put in my indiglo i touch all the needle by accident when i was tryin to put them in..
your probablem is a bad ground somewhere. it could be the ground under the dash or the ground that is behind the instrument cluster. does it happen when other acessories are going or just the tach. if it just the tach its probably the under dash one because the one behind the cluster is that plastic one and the grounds are distributed to other items from one large ground
hope this makes sense and helps

I have a 90 si with the same problems, although mine seems to hesitate at high rpm. The ignitor was replaced, but I think it is faulty, from all the posts I have read. I think it is deffinately the ignitor, as it never had this problem before it was replaced, and although they played with the wiring, it has never worked 100%. I hope this helps..
