Default oil leak

I have a really odd leak thats coming from my distributer bottom screw on the black cover piece. Can oil leak there? I've been watching it and its definantly leaking from that screw. How do i fix this? Is there a gasket i can replace.

I have the same problem. Is it on a B16A2?? I thought it was the Vtec solenoid gasket. I changed it and it wasn't that.

Bump for an answer

Take distributor cap off and see if you have oil in the bottom of the cap with oil inside the housing. If oil present then the distributor shaft seal is leaking. This is not too common.

Gambit's suggestion of a new distributor is probably the cause of the leak as this is very common problem.

If you take the dizzy off and don't have a timing light make shure you scribe the top tang of the dizzy with a mark going from dizzy to head so as not to mess up the timing.

You only need 1 o-ring, it,s a cheap fix.

My cam seals are new, in order to change the oil ring on the distributor, we need to take it out? That sucks

just take out the 3 screws that hold on the dist. then you will see the o ring on the dist shaft that goes into the motor.

Changing the o-ring is easy! Scribe top o dizzy, disconnect harness and undo 3 bolts. Then just pull it out and be prepared for huge oil spill as the remaining oil in the gallery will flow out. Change seal, clean and reinstall. Take not of how the shaft tangs are lined up for the cam. If you mess up the orientation the dizzy will not fit flush with the head when you reinstall.
It's a 10 minute job, 20 if you take a break and have a beer.

Well I picked up the oil ring yesterday and I will install it in a few. Hopefully thats my problem , my friend at Honda told me that it can also be the seal on the dist itself and if it is I would need to change the dist.

yes, that's right. VERY common for these to be sources of strange leaks on honda motors. Good luck.

Well I did it, it took about 10 mins, very easy. The old ring was hard and when i pulled the dist out, no oil spilled. I took it for spin, hit vtec a couple of times and got back and no oil. So I would say that my problem was the oil ring, After all this time it was a stupid oil ring giving me headaches. lol

To Chris, I hope you have the same luck. Remember to mark the dist on top with 2 lines in order to install the right way.
