Problem Starting (ECM???)
I have a 1989 Honda CRX that will turn over, however, would not actually start untill I pumped the gas a few times then would start.
When I insert the key to the first spot the battery light and oil light come on, but it is a new battery and I recently changed the oil.
Yesterday, I turned the key to the first spot then took the key out, inserted the key and it started almost normal. When I have been able to start the car it runs fine.
This morning would not start no matter how many times I tried. If anyone has had a similar situation or could help me figure this out it would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Your ignition switch may be going bad. There is a diagnostic procedure here.. http://mycomputerninja.com/~jon/IgnitionSwitch.html to figure out if it is bad.
you should test the starter solenoid wire to see if you are getting voltage to the starter solenoid wire when you try to turn it over. you can also do this test by trying to roll-start the car. if it roll starts when the starter doesn't engage, then you most likely have something wrong in the starting circuit.
The final possibility would be your clutch switch if you have a 89-91. That's assuming it is related to the starting circuit, which it seems to be since it runs fine otherwise.

Thanks for the suggestion, I will try it out this weekend, however, I probably won't be able to roll start simply because I may not be able to get it out of the middle of the roadway. Keep 'em coming!!!!!
Is it cranking over when you turn the key?
If it is...
When you put the key in and turn to ON (not start) do you hear the fuel pump whir for about 3 seconds and then turn off?
Pull the spark plugs and check them - also see if you get the smell of fuel in the cylinders.
Check compression.
Check spark.
Check timing.

I have ruled out the fuel pump, spark plugs, and am getting fuel to the cylinders. How do you check the compression, if needed now? Also, could it be the starter, the starter motor sounds like it may be burning out do the excess amounts of times I needed to turn it over to start before.
have u tried to start it manuallyfrom the starter and if it doesnt work try to check the starter at auto zone or doit 4 ur self by take of the starter then lay the starter on the floor using jumper cables connect the positive cable to the bolt next to the soilonoid then the ground to the ears were you took the 14mm bolts off from then jump the positive to the soilonoid with a jumper wire obiously u should have the jumper cables to the batery first
