Default WORK equip03's v.s. DRAG dr20 v.s. ROTA Flashback-

Im really looking for a nice set of wheels for my CRX.. I have my mind set on GOLD work equip 03's 15x7 4x100....

It makes me mad to see so many copy cats out there though.. Was wondering if anyone had actual specs of the difference between THE REAL WORKS and the knock off dr-20's and flashbacks.

I know knock-offs are hated on, but they are also half the price.... are the works a full 3 piece rim? any stats or extra info or comparisons on these rims would be very helpful.. even opinions! not sure what offset each rim is offered in either.

WORKS-

DRAG-

ROTA-

The Works are 3-piece wheels, with a rather large size range available (they'll even do custom offsets). As for the Rota's/Drag's, they're 1-piece cast wheels that'll have a cheaper paint (noticeable) and less polish work done to the lips (duller finish). Not to mention that the knock-off's bolts will be fake.

So all in all it is a much wiser purchase to go with the original equips if I can find them?

Offset is another question.. how can i figure out what offset I will need with my set-up?

First thing you'll need to do, is check for brake clearance to figure out what face-style you'll need. Then you'll need to measure your backspacing (clearance from the hub to your suspension). Then, you can figure out what kind of widths you're able to run (something around 7" will probably be your maximum). Figuring out your offset is pretty easy, then.

Great site for measuring details:

I'm pretty set on the Equips.. The guy from work was very helpful over the phone and told me my options and said a 15x7 with a +35 offset should sit flush without any rubbing issues. I don't want to be rolling around on knock off's either. The axis ones look different to me.. but they are replicas still.

does anyone know the weight of the work's? I hear they are a heavier rim compared to some others (rpf1's, RGF's..) cant seem to find the weight of many rims.

Also thinking of none of the above and going with some bronze 15" RPF1's.. the offset is a +41 which isnt much different than the equips.

wish they made the gold rpf1's in 15"

My buddy's 15x6.5's are about 15.2lbs, which is definitely a lighter weight wheel.

I hear the rpf1's are around 10lbs a rim... So now I must decide weight over baller status!

and I did find them with a +35 offset as well.. so nevermind my last comment about them being only +41

I'm leaning towards the bronze or silver rpf1's.... or if I can find a set that needs a recoating or just cheap enough, ill powder them gold.

I wish I could find the link, but the president of Work actually got a few of the replicas together and put them up against each other and the real thing in various stress tests. The replicas had a 50% passing rate. 50% is a huge, crazy scary thing....

Honestly, people say that they can buy 2-3 sets of replicas for the cost of 1 real item but something like wheels should be based on safety as well as looks, not just price alone.

Real wheels cost a big chunk, but if you see their manufacturing process, know the cost of their molds (esp to cater to all the custom sizing) and machines , paint and finish process, testing costs, etc etc... It is worth it for the quality and peace of mind, but thats just my opinion.

I agree.. I understand the R&D on the real equips is much better. I would not put fake rims on my car anyway, I was just looking for some +/- of each rim. The works weigh too much for what I intend on using my car for. Maybe Ill pick a set up when I become a hardparker!

For now I'm 99.9% going with RPF1's mainly due to them being around 10lbs a rim and there still very stylish to me. Its just killing me that I cant get the gold versions in 15"... its looking like bronze or silver.

Try giving Dynamic Autosports/Gruppe-S Engineering a call.

They have been able to get special colors for Enkei before...

Well, what about people with factory cast alloys? You have JDM/OEM nuthuggers all over here trying to race compound on damn VX and HX wheels and other shitty stock *** wheels. Then there's the fact that many cars have steelies or cast stock wheels. Can't imagine that any of those have the "safety" of "real" wheels, but I doubt that those billion people care. And, I also doubt that "fake" wheels are any less safe than those stockies.

****, I don't care who gets real of fake. I'll do what suits me. If the knockoff cant be made in the offset or spoke pattern I like, or has "something" about them, then I cant get them.

example. If I wanted Regamasters or SW388's, I wouldn't mind the Slipstreams. Looks difference is negligible. I'll look the same as the guy with sPoons for a few hundred.

(those SW's came up in a search for Spoon SW388's, if those aren't real...then that show how much of a difference that I see.

If I wanted RPF1's, I'd want the concave spokes. No copies are made like that. I'd have to the real things. I could not roll those Drags.

If I wanted Work Miester's, the Rota D2's would NOT cut it.

I take it as a case by case basis.

The rims for the OP, I could go with the cheapies. The difference isn't big enough. Just take some elbow grease to the lips.
