Default Wheel hop going up hill I suspect ...

Whenever I am going up on any kind of inclined road (steep or slight), if I get into any boost I get massive wheel hop and the entire car vibrates (because of the wheel hop I suspect). What do you guys think I need to change to fix this? Shocks & Tires? Already have a traction bar setup btw...

so you have a boosted h22 in an eg? how much power? current suspension setup? wheels and tires?

i think with a certain amount of power wheel hop is always going to be there

and you say yours is only going up hill?

invest in good tires, toyo t1R's are nice but if you can afford R compounds go for it, as for suspension, i wouldnt have a clue

omni makes a drag coil over with spring rates that are 810F/810R

but that seems excessive if your going to drive this on the street

Exactly what is your suspension setup now. Could be any number of items, but I'm pretty sure it could be fixed with whatever you have now without the need to buy anything new.

1) What tires & what are their size/condition?
2) What shocks/springs/coilovers?
3) If coilovers, have you been corner weighted?
4) What is your ride height front and rear measured at the car jacking points?

Without knowing details, I would suspect that either your tires are worn, and/or you are lowered on coilovers but ride height was set based on how the car looked.

Hi guys, sorry for the late reply but I should have remembered that when I bought the car (not boosted and no H22A), the previous owner installed some Ground Control coilover springs on the STOCK / OEM Shocks. I know the car was slammed before and then I raised it up a little because of the H22A. Now it is about 1.25" dropped all around. Also the tires on the car are low profile 17" and I can't remember the actual profile but they are Kumho Ecsta sadly.

Before I go into more details, I am thinking the shocks and tires need to be changed : going with Tokico Illuminas) and for tires I was thinking Azenis RT615 for the front ... what do you guys think so far?

Car CURRENTLY put outs about 320Whp and 260 Tq...

Your measurement of "1.25" dropped all around" is not accurate at all, we would need your jack point measurements to try and help you with the suspension setup.

Now, i'll do a simple situation to see if your shocks are blown. When you go over a bump, do your shocks instantly take the hit and level out, or do you get two or more jounces? (where the car humps a little)

I would suggest running a 15 or 16" wheel with 205/50-15 or 205/45-16 to make your ride quality better and probably increase traction. I have run Toyo T1R tires for around 20k miles, and would only rate them as decent at best. Check out Yokohama AD08, Bridgestone RE-11, Kumho XS, and Falken Azenis RT615. Read up on TireRack.com to see which one suits your needs best. I want direct handling as my top choice and do not care about ride quality, so I choose the AD08s for my next tire.

For just about the same price as Tokico Illuminas (your "upgrade" for shocks) you could get a nice set of properly valved Koni Yellow Sports from ground control themselves.

What are your alignment settings? I have a feeling that you have not set that up yourself for your driving style.

Ok I will try and get the measurements asap and yep it does bounce over bumpy roads a little. Well the reason why I am going with the Illumina's is because I got three of them (2 rear and 1 front) for $40 each brand new sealed because of a custom shop closing down and I just have to buy the one I need.

About the alignment, I think it is off because sometimes on an uneven road it tends to pull to one side, etc. Thanks for your help so far guys

on an uneven road the car will wonder due to the uneven pavement.

i would get some better struts and get some smaller wheels, the big wheels can cause wheel hop.

Sounds like the ground control + oem shocks is a bit part of your problem, You should jack up the car and look at the numbers printed on the springs. Those numbers will tell you the spring rates. If the rates are too high (like someone's road race springs), then you may need to replace the springs as well to get something more appropriate for the street.

I'm not a fan of azenis. I make about 200whp/150tq and destroyed a set of azenis on a roadcourse, and they were useless on the street after that. I ended up buying r compounds for track, and dunlop start spec's for street. I've been very happy with the star specs. Excellent tire.

Thats a lot of power for a street car. Good tires/springs/shocks will go a long way, but you will still need to keep the right foot under control. I would also suggesting finding the widest tire you can to stick on the car.

UPDATE : I installed the Illuminas and and to my surprise I saw that my rear passenger side LCA was bent! I did not change it yet but wow - it was a DAY AND NIGHT difference with the Tokico's (even without the wheel alignment) and no more wheel hop at all - I need to change that LCA asap next and then take it for full alignment...
