Default shifting problem

I have a 96 prelude si automatic and the problem is that I cannot put it in park no more nor in drive. This happened after i swap the motor. Whenever I shift it it grinds, I have to turn off the car in order to put it in park. I thought it was the trans since when I put it in park I can still push the car as if it is in neutral so I went ahead and bought a used trans installed it and still the same thing. The only thing that I can think of now is that maybe the shifter cable or the shifter itself.

Has anyone experience this before or what could it be that is causing this?

Are you using a MT ECU?

WTF dude? In your original post, you clearly stated that you swapped the motor. Now, you're saying everything is stock. It can't be both.

Sorry, I meant I swap the old h23 motor for a new rebuilt h23 motor but other than that everything else is still stock.

When I start the car when it is in park I can shift it out without grinding put when I put it back into park it grinds. It also grinds when I try to put it in drive but reverse does not grind or anything it just doesn't even work.

Either installation error or defective trans.

Everything seems to be put back the same way as when I took it off. What about that lever that is in front of the trans which has a cable that attached to the throttle body. The cable on lever also has a adjustment just like the throttle cable for tension.
