Default 1989 Honda Prelude 2.0 S dies intermittently

It will start, and run for varying amounts of time, but will randomly die. Initially I thought it might be the main relay, but once I went under the dash, the only relay I could identify looked nothing like what I had seen in many forum pics. Which led me to wonder, if it made a difference that it's not an si? The battery light also comes on, and stays on when trying to restart the car. I did have a mechanic look at it, and at the time the car had run out of gas, there is a small leak in the gas tank. He had said the fuel pump is good, and wasn't sure why it was doing what it is, to bring it back in. But I already spent $80 for him to tell me nothing. Help!
