Default forgetting to shift

alright this may sound stupid but I was driving my 08 acura TL and i put it into sport shifting mode and I had it one 1st gear and when I was speeding up the hill I forgot to shift to 2nd before it redline so then you just heard the engine screaming and the tachometer meter is bouncing up and down and then I just shift to second and I was wondering did I do any damage?? I basically forgot to shift.

^^ Probably Not is WRONG. That is how u blow up an engine. Do you hear a knocking sound now? Or anything weird that u didn't hear before. If you do than u have a problem.

You aren't going to blow up an engine by merely hitting the fuel cutoff for a couple of seconds.

These engines are run at the rev limit for days on end during engineering trials.

Just as long as he didn't do it for that long, it should be fine.

thankfully honda is smarter than your average internet poster....... fuel cutoff is well below the point you will actually do damage to the engine. the "redline" that the car shifts at is usually just above the peak power point so when the car changes gears, it's still in the meat of the power band.

The TL should automatically shift into the next higher gear when in sport mode once you hit the limiter the third time.

I hit the rev limiter on a near-daily basis with my 261,000 mile D16 engine. It's fine. (Kind of surprised it hasn't spun a rod bearing yet since D16 rod bolts like to stretch when run above 7000 RPM constantly.)

If you had damaged it in some major way, you'd have known immediately.
