Default B16a Power

I have a 1996 B16a but only got 100Kw at the wheels on a dyno.
Why?

100 kilo watts at the wheels? Damn that sucks. You could barely power a reading lamp with that.

poor attempt at being funny dude. do you know how much 100 kilowatts actually is? it can power more than a reading lamp and actually 100 kilowatts is equivalent to 134hp which is what you'd expect out of a B16.

stick to complaining about your weather and traffic.

Factoring in the loss in energy of a FWD and your car is spot on where it should be. You are pushing 134whp on an engine that is rated at 158bhp. FWD cars have roughly 12-14% loss in a manual transmission.

he didn't say where his engine came from so how can you say it's 158bhp?

Ah yes. Just like boost controllers save you gas money on turbo cars. Right?

It's an average, and if you can't see how a boost controller will save you money on gas then you truly are narrow minded. Pretty simple really, lower boost will amount to lower duty cycle. Lower duty cycle will amount to saving gas. Hell, with a quality boost controller you can turn your boost to 0psi, lowering your duty cycle even more.

Good job at trying to be passive aggressive know it all but better try it on someone who hasn't been around boosted engines for over 15 years. 12-14% loss in power via drive line is pretty much the standard. You have anything that says otherwise, or just smugness?

B16A = 158bhp

B16A1 = 148bhp

B16A2 = 160bhp

B16A3 = 158bhp

B16A4 = 174bhp

B16A6 = 158 bhp

Discounting the B16A4, less than 10 bhp difference, seems like a safe assumption to me, how bout you?

your logic is spot on...but will only work if you have several tuned fuel maps ready to go for the different boost levels.

I'm assuming you know this though being that you've been around boosted setups for 15 years.

Always, most any boosted set-up I have been involved in had at least 3 tunes.

good job...I'm a boost enthusiast myself but I've only been exposed to it for half the amount of years you have.

Sure if it's GEN 1 JDM B16A.

He still didn't say WHERE his B16A came from. He said his B16A was a 96 and if this a JDM B16A then it had 170PS or 168BHP.

Again, a mere 10bhp off. Don't know about the circles you go around in but most I deal with use the 158 as that is right around where most B16 are. Account for margin of error in both % of hp loss in drive line and the small variance in power you still end up in roughly the same area.

The circles I run around in are mostly 92-00 Civic's with Hydro swapped JDM B16A's, ALL are GEN 2 B16A's.

There are a some GEN 1 B16A's that have 170PS and they came out of the 92-93 Integra XSi.
