Default ticket advice! Thoughts and opinions please

So I got a ticket for running a red light in a car that's registered to my dad, so either way I have to fill in the little slip that identifies a new driver.

If I filled out that slip with all my [out of country] details and my [out of country] licence number would the city/county court run my name through the DMV anyway? And since I have a CA licence too, what would happen if they found me?

I can't really tell how similar my CA licence photo and the traffic cam photo are, but in the traffic cam I'm wearing sunglasses which obscure my eyes..

I'm trying to avoid a point on my CA licence and I don't have time for court or school because I'm away this coming week and then I go back to school [out of country] the following Monday.

So what should I do? Try and enter all my foreign details or bite the bullet and take the point? Any idea how it affects insurance?

Cheers

It doesn't look like online traffic school is available as an option, do I have to request it? It's also a lot more expensive, the ticket with traffic school is $50 more than just the ticket, and that even doesn't include the fees for traffic school.

I want to pay, but I don't want the points, which details do I put on the driver declaration? Would I get away with it?

If you opt out for traffic school, the judge will usually reduce your fines as well. That also results in no points on your record.

If you decide to just pay the ticket, you'll have to pay the full fine, point on your record, and insurance rates goes up accordingly.

It sounds as if you've already put in foreign info so it really doesn't matter what we tell you now, but since you've done that, don't expect the judge to give you any sort of break, and will they find you? Possibly. They have bench warrants if you decide to avoid it, and if you get pulled over for whatever reason they can arrest you. It's revenue for the state, and you know they won't pass that up.

If you go to school outside of the country, just pay the fine. The point is only there for 3 years, and then it goes away as far as your SR/INS is concerned. After that, insurance is not suppose to make it a chargable offense, assuming you don't get another.

Well I haven't done anything about it yet that's why I'm asking for advice.

The point of registering foreign details was to avoid the point, not the fine, which I have every intention of paying anyway which I hoped would reduce the heat. But anyway general consensus seems to be foreign info = bad.

Splaturn, what's the difference between opting put of traffic school and straight put paying the fine? Either way it's cheaper because I don't have to pay an additional court fee and school fees but the ticket reads like either traffic school or point with no intermediary ground.

So how do I go about online school? I got a list of all eligible traffic schools but no online ones do I need to approach the schools individually and ask whether they offer online classes?

well do you want to fight the ticket? i believe in fighting any and every ticket. even if i was clearly in the wrong. the fact is that ppl do get let off and it is possible. do you want to save money or loose $?

i got my first speeding ticket about 5 months ago and im still in the middle of fighting it.(different county too) this whole process of fighting it will take months. and you will have to keep up with it if you really want to get it dismissed. (what im doing) if you let it go a warrant will be issued for your arrest. (yah the lamest thing ever)

you need to extend your court date first and foremost. after that its all about either writing a written decoration or appearing in court hoping the cop doesnt show. there is a whole process and strategy. google it. "how to beat a speeding/traffic ticket." theres so many ways out there.

dont let the system suck you in even though you were in the wrong. we all mess up sometimes. and just because some ppl get breaks means you deserve a break too. so fight it! and if thats not a option for you then take traffic school and get the fine lowered!

You can get out of this ticket easily since you are not the registered owner.

I assume the ticket was mailed to your dad.

If it is a red light ticket, the photo must clearly show that the registered owner was driving the car. Since you were wearing sunglasses and you are clearly not the registered owner, the court cannot force your dad to pay for the ticket. They cannot force him to disclose who was driving his car either.

Visit www.highwayrobbery.net and read everything on that site. Depending on what city you were in, the notice you got may not even be a real ticket.

Are you sure about that? I thought the registered owner was responsible for the vehicle at all times and if unable or unwilling to disclose who was driving had to take the blame instead. Besides isn't refusal to disclose kind of perjury?

NO lawyer!! all their trying to do is make their money and that means cutting deals with the DA. a lawyer will not try to get the ticket dismissed. he will just try to reason and lower the payment. theres plenty of resourceful free info on the net. represent yourself FTW!!!

Look. not to be an *** but if you brake the law, RUNNING RED LIGHTS,SPEEDING your at fault and need to grow up and take responsibility's for your actions. Stop trying to fight something your guilty for. Lying and playing dumb is only going to make thing worst. And having to pay more for your insurance is something your going to have to do. And What if you had crashed in to a family and killed them or your self? Your lucky you only have a ticket.i know it sucks stopping at red lights, but its the rules of driving.

^^ I dissagree with those statements any day. Every single time i break the law speeding & get a ticket i will fight it for as long as i live. With every system there are flaws whether you agree with them or not/ laws or no laws. Even if this guy is guilty he can just ask questions in court that may get his ticket dismissed because the court wasn't on point. Not lye or cheat. Just bring to the attention the court is slipping. Not all people agree that we should pay thousands of dollars to the court system even if we break the law and speed. The ticket industry is one of the biggest money makers off of ppl like you that want to settle and pay. Just the fact of tickets existing is enough to make me not want to speed let alone multiple fees. Theres a time and place to speed.

OP- Fight the ticket all the way and dont be a sheep to the system and pay. Fight at a chance to get your ticket dropped no paying money no ticket case closed.
