Icon2 Empty Oil Filter

Just curious if anyone else has ever experienced this. Changed my oil today and the car was driven for an hour, I let it cool down about 2 hours, started it for 10 minutes then shut it off again. Changed the oil and when I unscrewed the filter it was bone dry inside, not one drop spilled out. Every other time I've ever changed the oil it's come pouring out as soon as the gasket pulls away from the engine. And when I put the filter upside down on the oil catch pan, the oil pours out in a little string for a while... this time Nothing.

Should I be concerned or has anyone else experienced this?

Thanks in advance for any adivce.

didn't quite fill an empty gallon winshiled washer jug, and before I changed the oil I checked the dipstick and it was a hair above the full line. I always like to see if any oil was consumed between oil changes.

Was it clicking loud at all? We had a similar problem with a Crown Vic. and it turn out to be a bad filter.

if it was a bad filter, would that have triggered a low oil pressure situaiton? and caused the oil pressure warning to come on ?

I’m guessing it’s normal. Whenever I do an oil change without warming the car I get nothing or little oil in the filter.

oil filters have anti-drain back valves to prevent oil from draining back into the engine when the engine is off...if the anti-drain back valve malfunctions, oil will drain back into the engine. when you first start the car, you'll notice the "low oil pressure light" will stay on a few extra seconds because the oil filter has starved the engine of oil.

this is another reason why fram filters are crap... they use cheap materials for the anti-drain back valve

Then they must be the greatest thing since sliced bread.

No wonder my 92Si went 216,000 miles with no problem using Fram filters and cheap oil. Then we used that same crankshaft and orginal oil pump in the race motor.

That's interesting info there, Honda uses Fram filters.
