99-00 Honda Civic EX or SI
Im having trouble deciding on getting an fbp ej8 or em1. Just looking for some opinions to help me make up my mind. Only thing really holding me back is the difference in insurance because Im not too sure how much it would be but I do know that the SI insurance would be more expensive. Let me know what yall think.
Si for sure!!

The insurance for me wasn't anywhere as bad as I thought it was going to be... Also the Si suspension is killer for a stock setup, it is hard for me to drive a stock EX after driving my EM1... Plus the EM1 is such a sharp car even in stock trim...
you do realize of coarse that if you bought an EX and were to swap out that entire list of things that i mentioned earlier, that between "money, time and labour" you'd be no further ahead of the game! Don't waste your time trying to make something into what you should picked up in stock trim right from factory. The EM1 chassis will always be at the top of the food chain for EK's sold in North America.
the front brakes are exactly the same
get the si it's only blue booked like 2 grand over the ex so the insurance shouldn't be too insane
I would have got an si but I like hatches so the next best thing.... swapped hatchy

My vote is for the Si simply because you have a better foundation. If you want to swap to a bigger engine, or do some kind of engine work, you're wiring, mounts and trasmission are good to go. I swapped a B18C1 into an EM for my cousin and he was thrilled by the extra torque
ya, the Si, EX, and Tegs have the same front brake rotor size. tegs have bigger calipers and that's it. Si and EX front brakes are identical..
i think ur choice depends completely on what u wanna do with the car. if u want to keep it pretty much stock (who does this), then go with the Si. a few bolt ons and u've got urself a pretty damn decent dd. If u want to go aftermarket upgrades and u want a bigger engine than the b16 for autocross or just simply a faster car, why bother: go with the ex and spend the money u save on parts..
where i am i bought the canadian ex equivalent for 5000$ less than what our Si's go for..thats enough for a b series engine and tranny swap and plenty of aftermarket toys.
the thing is, people are rarely completely happy with what they have. they always want more of something!! so choose where u want to go with the car in the long run, and pick the option that is gonna hurt the bank the least haha
