Buying a S2K tomorrow, Need Help, Clutch Warranty
Hey guys,
I wanted a GPW S2K, couldn't find any, then saw a guy driving one....stopped him and asked him if he's interested in selling....he said maybe.
Talked to him some more, he let me drive the S2K, and said he'll let it go if I pay off the remaining balance of the loan.
Guy seems like a straight shooter.
The car is a 2001 with 88K on it; he has the extended warranty; he got the rear diff replaced last year; the car itself is clean as anything, even the engine bay. He said the only thing it might need is a new clutch.
How likely is it that I could get the clutch covered under Honda warranty?
Please lemme know. thanks

With that extended warranty make sure it's transferred over to YOU if you purchase the vehicle or it will be invalid. I found this out 2 days ago while trying to get some TSB's fixed and my warranty had just run out.
A clutch is a wear and tear item, it all depends on how the vehicles driven; how long it'll last. I don't believe it would be covered but that's just me..

Like omg miiiike said the clutch is a wear and tear item on car, kinda like tires. And ur clutch will last depending on how the cars driven. I really dont think the warranty will cover a new clutch. But u never know. If he changed the differential maybe he was launching the car or drove it pretty aggressively. But all n all s2k is a great car u will love it.
And for the guy above.. I have walked up to someone and asked them if they'd be interested in selling their car as well, cash talks.
if someone replaces a clutch gotta replace the pressure plate also especially on an 01 around 600 for a decent kit gotta get the flywheel checked out too

you dont have to replace the pressure plate, you can surface that if its in good shape still and only swap the clutch disk + bearing. i've been on a budget before lol
its better to change the pressure plate when its apart then say screw it i cant afford it and pay 2 times to get it done by someone dont ya think?
i've looked at my pressure plate and i super duper doubt its going to break at oem power levels? oh and i do my own work of course.
heres one off my prelude, 12 years old + 128k miles old. aside from the hotspots on it, i don't see anything wrong with it.

if there's a reason that im failing to see, let me know. the only time i would change out a pressure plate is for more clamping force aka a complete clutch upgrade. for OEM or anything else, if the pressure plate can be resurfaced or serviced thats what ill do.

http://www.econofix.com/clutch.html check it out and you be the judge
Otherwise hope to God that his loan balance is like $2k and the car has no hidden issues..

wear items arnt covered under warranty or extended warranty. unless you worked something out with the dealership you purchase the car from.
How much does he owe on the car. If you can't find any GPW's near you, then you should travel to find what you are looking for. However, I find it VERY hard to believe there is nothing in your area. Check out searchtempest.com (craigshelper)
