Do children ride with you much?
Just curious.
My gf has an 8 year old son who I rides with me alot on my Zuma. I tried having him ride on my Sportster the other day and he ended up melting his shoe on the pipe, his legs were a little short for the passenger pegs.
I just got him a new helmet today. It's some kind of Fulmer open face.

It sounds like a bad idea to me, but I'm a new rider. But to me to jeopardize my own life is my decision, anyone else's lives should be left to them. and at 8 years old i seriously doubt he's had lessons of his mortality yet. thats just my view on it, and i don't mean to come off in any negative or judgemental manner its just that a full grown adult rolling at 30-40mph with gear on is different than a 8 year old child is what im saying.
If it were me the kid would only be on the bike for joy rides in a mostly-controlled (you can't always control the conditions) environment.

My son, maybe if he was interested. Someone else's kid? No way - unless she was 18+ of course
Seriously, I've never ridden with someone on the back. Just my choice, I guess.

Kind of OT, but when i picked up my bike the day i purchased it, i stopped to get some food. This dad and his son got on a bike, and once the son got on the back, he clinched on to his dad with his dear life. I mean side of the face up against the back, and stayed in that position for as long as i could see them turn off the road. Cutest thing ever! Haha.
But yea, i don't even wanna put my gf on the back yet. A kid, i'd be scared he wouldn't listen or forget to hold on tight and follow procedures or something. But i think it might be different on a bike with a sissy bar though.

I think the first time I rode on the back of a motorcycle was with my dad when I was about 11 years old or so. But at that point I had been riding motorcross for a while and already felt comfortable on two wheels. I remember it was still a little weird, but that's because I wasn't in control of the vehicle. Just teach a kid to respect the bike and pray that he holds on tight!

I did when I was about that age. I think I would have been 7 or 8 when my dad started letting me ride with him. I don't remember exactly what bike he had then (80's), some yamaha cruiser. Burnt my leg on the exhaust a few times but other than that I loved it, and still remember it to this day.
I've been wondering at what age to start riding kids on back. We've got kids who do have DOT helmets for their bikes. I've held off riding them more than up and down the block on mine. I think I'll wait until they are like 7 or 8.. I also clearly remember my first ride on the back of a two wheeler about that age.
