Short block question...
My 95 GSR is approaching 160k and I think that it may be due for a new shortblock. It's been blowing some blue smoke under hard acceleration, and I think my valve seals might be on their way out as well. I have the opportunity to get a 93 B16 shortblock for a good deal off a friend. I plan on using the GSR head, and I'm going to put new valve seals, titanium retainers, and stiffer valve springs while it is off the car. I also plan on still using my GSR tranny. What should I expect in terms of power? I know the B16 is 160/111, but I've also heard that the GSR head increases compression a little... what are the pros and cons to this set up? Thanks
Your block is fine (more than likely), and you'll absolutely regret getting the B16 engine. The loss of torque all across the powerband will have you pitching that engine quicker than $2.00 ***** gets on her knees.
All you need to do is freshen up the wear and tear items. Unless you crack or warp the block, it's perfectly reusable as long as the key components are intact.
Overhaul the engine and figure out what you need to replace. I'm in the process of doing this now. IM or e-mail me if you want to talk.
